We saw our first Galician mist this morning and after what seems like weeks of sunshine. So it was a surprise to wake up to cooler weather. We shared breakfast with a South African woman who had given up her job as a specialist nurse after a taste of the Camino and was back to walk some more and is going to act as a volunteer helper in Santiago when she finishes the walk. The experience does really change some people's lives and gets them to rethink their futur...

Sorry the blog is a day late as no wifi again. The pic is me in Sarria, the only town we went through as the rest was all countryside with some shade thank goodness. Galicia definitely has a smell which I can only describe as cowsheds. It's really small time farming with lots of dairy. Apart from the puplo which I may try once more the local speciality is veal. This photo was taken at seven this evening and look at the colour of the sky. So the heat wave continues but not quite as hot as before. We walked down the mountains into Gallicia proper today and it feels very rural with cows in small fields, the smell of silage and hay,and random chickens everywhere. We stopped for lunch in a lovely bar for gazpacho and our first,and maybe last, taste of puplo which is a famous dish of octopus cooked with a spicy paprika. Not ...

Determined to try and avoid the worst of the heat I set the alarm for 6. Roger really pulls a face especially as the bright light shining outside the room turns out to be the moon. It's light here until nearly 11 at night but darker in the morning. So we set off with the dawn at 6.45 and I even need my fleece to start off which I haven't worn in days.
