We're settling into our routine of sailing and working on things on the boat. All of the sailing has been going well. We had a nice easy sail yesterday. Really light wind, so we put up all our three main sails. We have a cutter, which means it has a jib sail and a staysail up front and the mainsail aft. We also have a spinnaker sail that would fly way out in front, but we haven't tried it yet.
We got to practice our man overboard drill yesterday. When we were coming down the channel, coming into the harbor, Pam was pushing the fenders (rubber bumper things) over the side of the boat. One of them wasn't tied onto the boat, so as she pushed it over, she saw its line go with it. We were able to turn around, go back up the channel and she caught it with the boat hook. Then we backed up, going down the channel - so we wouldn't run aground on its sides. Pam said she felt like Captain Ron when he dropped the anchor over the side and watched the line go with it!
Now I get to start working on the boat's electrical system. Most of it is pretty old, so I'll being fxsing what is worth fixing, removing the stuff thats no good and buying new replacements. We are also starting to figure out what we'll need to buy so we can be self sufficient for power.
Our daughter, Dana, is having a baby. She is about two weeks late and the doctors are inducing labor today. So we are anxious that everything will go well. They are saying that everything is OK so far.
