Today was the last day I had at the Claremont Guest House. I decided to treat myself to a very long lie in, knowing that most of the day was budgeted simply for packing my things to get ready to move back to Melbourne Metro. At about 12pm I got out of bed, got ready, and began collecting my things together in order to leave.
I have found in my time out here, that there are things you can do to really help yourself when you are staying in dorms. For example, I have an order that things are stored in my locker. If anything is out of order, something is missing. Also, this makes accessing common things easier - I dont need my sleeping bag in a dorm so it stays in the back, but my electricals and wash bag are right up front. You get the picture.
Another example is that I have developed a motto for myself to make sure I dont forget anything. As I leave a room I always say to myself "leave the room exactly as I entered". What this means is that I take a quick look around, and the room should appear the same. Everything should be locked up in its proper place, or I am carrying what I need.
Also, every time I leave a room, I do the same check I have done all my life - "wallet, keys and phone". Saying that to myself, I know that I always have those 3 things on me no matter where I go. If I check my pockets and something is missing, it has to be in that room.
Once I was packed up, I spent the day relaxing in the hostel with Dave, doing some house hunting but mostly watching light TV. Outside it was 35 degrees, but unlike all the days previous, it was very humid and dull. Thunderstorms are definitely overdue in Melbourne at the minute.
At 7pm we headed out for the last time to say goodbye to the Australian Open, with the final being Djokovic vs Nadal. We left early in hopes of getting a seat at Fed Square, but upon arrival we discovered we were not the only ones with this plan. The square was completely full - the first time I have seen it so, with no space to move.
We eventually found some seats and witnessed a thrilling 5 set match. Before heading to bed I said my finaly goodbye of the day to Dave and we agreed to keep in touch and try and get a house share together in the next few weeks.
