This morning was checkout day at the Claremont Guest house, and I was up bright and early to be ready to leave. Check out is at 10am, and after checking everything was ready I headed back off out in to South Yarra with my two bags in tow.
When I came to Australia I was very strict on what I would bring with me. I made sure that I packed light, especially with cloths. Most hostels have laundry facilities and I would rather use those more frequently than carry around a heavy backpack.
As a result my main backpack with cloths in it is remarkably light. Although I wouldnt like to go long distance with it on my back, I can easily carry it about Melbourne, and as it has nothing except cloths in it, I dont really need to watch people trying to pocket anything from it. My other bag is a different story.
As I am working out here whilst I travel, I have brought along various electronics that I keep in my carry on bag. However, this has resulted in that bag being heavier than my main backpack. In addition it has all my toiletries and towel.
Carrying both bags together can be a real weight on my neck after some travelling, and by the time I reached North Melbourne I was definitely ready for a breather. Melbourne has very high humidity at present, and with the high temperatures it can be very tiring and hard to breathe.
I checked in at melbourne and began my ritual of unpacking my bags. I learned the last time I was here that my main pack is too big to fit in the locker when its full, so I have to unpack some stuff and lay it out elsewhere inside the locker to get the pack in. Also from my experience, I have learned how to order my locker for quick access to common items and for not forgetting anything.
After unpacking I spent most of the day relaxing as I had a lot of contact with the UK planned. I talked to work, spoke to my mam and tried once again (unsucessfully) to sort out my banking issues. After all that fuss, I headed off to sleep.
Ian.
