The 12th of June started early for Stu, Jess, Scott and Lauren. They had plans to visit the small town of Nimbin, famous for things you can research on your own ;). For me, the day was looking decidely less interesting. I had again reviewed my financies, and with major work not forthcoming, I had to start planning what to do.

I got up, and after getting ready I settled in to a somewhat depressing day of problem solving. First up, I had to update all my contact information and begin putting the feelers out for work. Afters spending 3 hours on this, the next task at hand was to start on the little work that was available.

After working for around an hour, I decided I needed a break. The rain outside had paused, and some small blue sky had even managed to show up. Eager to at least sample a bit of Byron bay during the day, I headed for the closest attaction, the famous beach. Within 10 minutes I was standing on it, and it did not disappoint.

Whilst the weather had not been great for tourists in general, it made for a surfers paradise. The waves were crashing in on Byron beach, and the backdrop of sunbeams bursting through the clouds certainly left an almost artistic impression. After spending some time admiring the view, I eyed the most famous landmark in Byron Bay, the lighthouse that signals the most easterly point in mainland Australia.

The weather was still acceptable, though it was starting to worsen. I decided that I couldn't help myself but visit the lighthouse, and so I began the 20 minute climb up the hill. It was well worth the effort, even though almost immediately upon reaching the summit I was drenched by rain. The views across byron are absolutely spectacular, and the place definitely earns its reputation.

After spending 30 minutes at the lighthouse, the weather presented a quick gap before a ferocious looking cloud appeared behind the gap. I took the oppertunity to head back to the hostel and complete my work in the evening, before crashing out.
