Today was our last day at the Spanish school, it was a tough day and our brains were finally fried all the way through!! We have had a new teacher for the last 3 days, who was more "teacher like" than Gloria. I think we learnt more but it was a lot less fun than it was and I didn´t have the afternoon giggles!
It was certainly a very successful two weeks. Everyday we studied outside in the shade and surrounded by forest. We were certainly "at one with nature", confirmed when some monkeys came to join us by playing the trees overhead. One was so kind to do a little widdle from above which landed very close to where we were studying!
After our last day at school we decided to chillax by having a little walk around "The American Zone" in Quepos (a part of town that was built by the United Fruit Company). If felt like we had left Costa Rica and walked into a slightly run down version of American Suburbia...it was a bit weird! While out for our wee turn about the American Zone, we came across and army of ants carrying HUGE leaves! (See video). We followed them for about half a mile when they disappeared into a field and came out the other side...must have gone on for at least a mile! They are amazing little things but are also EVIL!! They planned a surprise attack on us while we were at the school, we didn´t know were under fire until they had sucked all our blood. We fought back...it was a bit of a massacre, sorry to any ant lovers out there but if you attack us, we will retaliate!!!
As a really sweet gesture, Xinia (mother in the family), bought (possibly made) some tomales for us. It is a traditional Christmas meal that they seem to have for breakfast lunch and dinner!! (see photos). It was nice but not really the sort of thing that our stomaches are used to first thing in the morning.
Off to Uvita for some Christmas relaxation!!
