Yesterday was our free surfing lesson (courtesy of the Spanish school). I (Suzy) didn´t think I would enjoy it that much, wasn´t too bothered about trying and really didn´t think I would be able to stand up at all! BUT...it was so much fun and I even managed to ride several waves from beginning to end (standing up)!! Ian was ok at it... ;o) He did enjoy it but not as much as me I think. If only Scotland was a bit more appropriate for surfing I would take it up as a new hobby.
Today we finally made it up to Manuel Antiono National Park. It is only 10 minutes up the road from where we are staying. The wildlife in Costa Rica is Amazing, and in the park you get a chance to see many animals. They are wild but quite tame because of all the people coming and going. The racoons are particularly cheeky! We were eating lunch and didn´t notice that two had crept up behind us and were attempting to steal our food. One got so close that it almost managed to grab the bag with the bread in it. When we went swimming we had to padlock our backpacks to a tree because the monkeys have a nasty habit of stealing them!
As well as loads of little monkeys (in the photos), we saw howler monkeys, lizards (including Jesus lizards that run on water), an iguana, racoons, a hive of African killer bees and a family of specific Costa Rican deer. The beach there was beautiful and very serene...a good day!
