Ian & Claire's Adventure
Day 8
We woke early again to avoid the sandflies piled into the boat and had our breckie.....boo quinoa rice pudding, the first and only horrid meal, however warm which was nice. We then arrived to the lovely paradise that is Erika lodge, where we sat in hammocks and played with Coca the Macaw who posed nicely for piccies. We then started the very long trip back to Atalya port, sleeping most of the way, every now and then Noe would mumble birds names and we would go yeah, seems crazy now but got a bit tedious, once you've seen fifty flocks of blue and yellow macaws in the distance.....We arrived in Atalya and guess what one car hadnt arrived (we were going back in 2 4wd vehicles so it was 10hr instead of 13) so we ate a nice warm pasta salad, Noe bought us a beer and we climbed into our nissan old banger which needed to be bump started....joy, then 15 mins up road the other vehicles leaf spring had come apart and they had old inner tyre to fix it, using bricks to lift up the car as the jack was far too short.....we were too tired for this. Luckily it was just us and Nic in ours so we had room to sleep once we dropped off the chef and drivers. We stopped and met up with the others for tea and cheese sarnies, we were still hungry so we went and bough several bars of Nestle Sublime, great cheap chocolate. About 6 very bumpy hours later we arrived in Cusco freezing cold and unfortunately Nics hostal was full, we thought sofd it and paid 55$US for a fantastic heated hotel with a bath...we both jumped in for a soak, total bliss and the best nights sleep in a month.
