Ian & Claire's Adventure
Hola
Today we set off to the next place Ica, where we planned to get a night bus to Arequipa, but on the coach we met the dutch couple again and the canadians who were all going to a place called Huacca China, sounded great, sand dunes, lovely hostal with hammocks, so when we got to Ica (which didnt inspire us much, loud busy city) we went and booked our night bus for saturday night instead and hopped in a taxi to Huacca China.
5 mins taxi ride took us to an amazing place, an oasis in the middle of mountanous sand dunes, a beautiful lake, palm trees, the hostal was great apart from the lack of water in the swimming pool, as we walked out the back we saw hammocks in the shade, people chilling and up on the dunes people sandboarding down which looked like great fun.
We went for some food then straight up onto the dunes for a look about and of course lots of piccy taking. That night we had a bbq at the hostal and our first taste of peruvian wine which is not unlike very sweet very nasty sherry. They tried to feed us about 20 burgers(which they claimed were burro-donkey) each so the local dogs were happy!
The next morning 8am(bit cooler) we hired a board and started the climb up the dunes, it very nearly killed us but we had great fun boarding down.
We then had 8 hours till our night bus so we lounged on the lakeside, read books etc then left for Ica, then after 3 hours of delay in the freezing bus station having had no food because they were supposed to feed us on the bus, the thing arrived, very plush, reclining seats and blankets, better than the aeroplane, but 10hrs so worth it, we troughed down the food, warmed up with hot aweet camomile tea (horrid but did the job) then got comfy, apart from the guy behind snoring very loud all the way it was ok.
Next stop Arequipa
Adios
Claire & Ian
