Ian & Claire's Adventure
15th Friday
Queenstown is abeautiful but tiny place overlooked by the Remarkables and sat next to a lake. Its rmarkable calm despite its tag as the adventure capital of the world. After all of our travelling we were glad to finally be in a place where we could spend at least a couple of days just being there. We had been staying at teh Top10 creekside holiday park just out of town. It had a nice socaible area where we met Heath and Viv, another backpacking english couple in a delica.
We had planned for Ian to do a Bungee jump and for Claire to do a sky dive while we were here but we're a bit short of funds so we treated oursleves to a ride in the famous Shotover Caynyon Jet Boats. A very cool peice of kit capable of some amazing rides 'very close' to the caynon walls and 360 degree spins in 4 inches of water. It wasn't as scary as we expected but we came away wanting to do another ralley course each.
In the eveing we descivered part of queenstowns reputation as a party town. The 4 of us walked ni to town to an Acoustic night at one of the bars. It and all of the other bars which had live music were packed. We ended up having a nice sociable beer at one of the many Irish bars. gasp next thing we knew it was 1am.
Heath and Viv had talked us into going on a day trip to Glenorchy and Paradise nearby that night so Saturday morning we did just that. There isn't really much at Glenorchy but its teh scenic drive to Paradise that takes you there. Paradise was not really a particular point so we just pulled over on the roadside next to a field and had lunch, surrounded by more beautiful scenery. It is apparently the location for Saurumans tower in Lord of the rings. despite the scenery we were more concerned with watching the newly born calves in the fielfd next to us (such townies). One had just been born and was attempting to get its first feed and another had been outcast and couldn't find its mother.
