Day 5:
We woke up at 6am plus this morning. Our first mission was to drive Ps Henry to work because we needed his car in the afternoon for home visitation. It was quite a long drive; understandably because of the slow traffic due to peak-hour. When we arrived at his office, Francis drove back while Emma navigated; I was just a happy passenger.
After we came back, the whole team went to JB's Corner at Melrose Arch. The brunch was delicious. We ordered our own meal and top it off with nachos, which we couldn't finish anyway due to its sheer huge size.
After brunch, we came back to Ps Henry's house. Sister Lerato then had a briefing for everyone of us, regarding the profile of the people that we would be visiting. I was especially amazed at sister Lerato who knew the different lives of the people in the church in such great detail. Her knowledge of their lives were incredibly deep.
After the briefing, we set off to Cosmo city for home visitation. But before that, we dropped by Pick n Pay to get some necessities as gifts such as chocolate, deodorant and sanitary pad.
We went to a total of 5 homes at Cosmo city. Basically, Cosmo city is a township where people who previously lived in slums were relocated. The lifestyle of the people there itself was an eye-opener. Their living rooms (with kitchens) were enough to fit only about seven of us with the dining table in the middle; hardly any space to walk. We went around each homes to minister and encourage the people there. One particular instance moved me a lot. In one of the visitations, we got the children who live there to sing and they really sang at the top of their lungs. Their singing was fantastic. And before we left, we prayed and encouraged them to continue to love the Lord.
By the time ministry was done, it was about 7pm in the evening. We drove back and on its way, bought KFC for dinner by drive-through for the team as well as for Ps Henry's family.
After dinner, almost everyone was tired. I was exhausted too from the long day. And even as I was typing this, I could feel the tiredness encroaching. Anyway, it was a fruitful day for me. I enjoyed the time spent meeting people and encouraging them to continue their journey with the Lord. It brings me great joy that by the grace of God, their lives were touched from the various words of encouragement or at the very least, by our mere visitation at their homes.
