Hi,
Today we had another beautiful day! We did what is known as the Waterfall Circuit. We drove through the Atherton Tableland Area and spent the day stopping in quaint little towns that are in the middle of rainforests and swimming in giant waterfalls.
Our first stop in the morning was in a town named Mareeba. The shop serves locally grown coffee and has a cute gift shop. We then stopped in a town named Yungaburra and had a delicious lunch and had a hard time finding a little used book shop that specializes in antique books. a lot of places we have looked for are mentioned in the Lonely Planet's guide to Australia. This has been our bible!
We stopped at a giant fig tree that grew around another tree. It is called a curtain fig, and it was gigantic! The rainforest has some really special trees and plants!!!!
Finally around 4 hours later we got to the waterfalls in the Millaa Millaa Area. They really are amazing. The pictures do not really show how beautiful they are! It was very rainy day(imagine that in a rainforest!).I have quite a few bug bites so I put some mud on them...it seems to work! In the mean while, a little mud on my legs turned into a lot of mud on faces and everywhere! We decided to swim in a waterfall to get the mud off.The water is a little chilly, Mike had the great idea to put on our "wetties" , and it was much better. We swam in the swimming hole and then behind the giant waterfall. Amazing!
On our drive back we saw a beautiful rainbow...a great end to another special day in Australia.
