We arrived in Phuket after the worst boat journey ever. We have both said we are never setting foot on a boat again in our lives, even if we win a free cruise round the Mediterranean or something! Never again!!
It was quite a big ferry and looked sturdy and good, but its looks were deceiving! It was rocking from side to side so much that Dom was worried it was going to tip over! I was buried under tshirts, towels and bags with my ipod pretending I was anywhere else, as the boat crew were handing out bags for people to be sick into, and they were all around us! Ergh. Dom had had a travel sickness tablet and still felt bad, and I was just dying and trying to fall asleep. It was horrific and we were on it for about 2 hours. As we were waiting to get off, the voice came on the tannoy saying 'Thanks for travelling with Sea Angel Cruises, we hope to see you again on your next journey', errrrr you'll be hoping for a long time!
After that ordeal we climbed off the boat and found a mini bus going in the direction of Kata beach where we had booked to stay for 3 nights at the Gold Queen Guest House. Turned up and found it being run by a nice little family. A swedish woman, a thai man and their two babies who were so gorgeous! We went up to our room and it was the best one yet! They really are getting better each time. We had a nice big bathroom, air conditioning, a TV, a fridge, a nice big bed and the whole room was decorated so nicely!
We went for a walk to the beach, and as it was getting into early evening the tide was going out. The sand looked so incredible, and the waves were so big! Well we thought they were, until the next day when we went down and the tide was in, and the waves were MAD! We spent most of the day playing in the sea, diving into and jumping over waves. That was just Dom really, I was getting clobbered by them! I was being knocked over, getting stripped of my bikini with every wave! I dread to think what had been on show for the sunbathers that day. But it was still so fun!
We found a restaurant that has Connect 4 on the tables, and had a bit of a tournament. Dom won 9-6! But we had some gorgeous food. Dom bought a phone card and rang home! It was sooo lovely to talk to his mom, love her! Also while we were on the phone a van went past with an elephant in the back! It was so weird and funny hahaha.
The next day we got up and went to the beach again! There's not a lot else to do in Kata really, but it's nice to have a few days of sunbathing and work on the tan! (which is coming along nicely by the way).
We got picked up from our hostel in Kata by Pim from our next hostel in Karon which was handy! Had our own little free taxi, and arrived to yet another amazing room (with room service!). This is too good to be true, our next one has got to be a dump. We have booked a dorm in Singapore which I think is going to be sooo weird to share a room with strangers so that might end the winning streak. But honestly this room is massive!
We walked down to Karon beach as soon as we arrived and played in the waves again! They're even bigger here would you believe. I got clobbered yet again and almost drowned. That's an exaggeration but it knocked me over and I breathed in a load of water! It was horrible but quite funny haha, had a sunbathe then went back to the room and bought a few bits and bobs from the supermarket. We bought a bat and ball, and a volleyball as well, and played bat and ball for a bit in our room!! Hahaha, that's how big it is! Then went back to the beach and played bat and ball for ageeees in the sea! We've got two nights here, then we're going up to Patong which is party central apparently! Will keep you updated. Love you all xxxx
Had a gorgeous few days at Karon beach, with the mad waves. It is such a beautiful beach! Then we travelled up to Patong beach by bus, and the driver had no idea where our hotel was, as per. But we got there and yet again it is a palace. Our room is fit for royalty and is so modern, we had towel swans on the bed and everything! We were quite far away from central Patong where all the partying happens, which is good in a way but bad in a way because that means we are far away from the beach too! But the beach isnt all its cracked up to be I have to say. All we've heard are rave reviews about Patong beach being the best in Thailand and people coming back year after year, but Kata and Karon are better already and don't even remind me about Phi Phi or I might start crying.
We had a nice few days there just walking about. There was a big shopping centre down the road called Jungceylon where we spent most of our time as the air conditioning was irresistible! We didn't go to the beach actually for a proper sunbathing sesh! We just explored the town where there are so many men with young Thai girls its awful. Some of them might be in love but a lot of them cant be, and they've all got kids and all sorts! No offence to them but we did think ekkk,
On our last day there we rented a moped and went to Bang Tao waterfall which was so funny. There was a lizard on the steps on the way up and it was trying to camouflage itself with the stone, but it had a big green head it must have forgotten about! And dom threw his flip flop at it and it landed right on his back hahaha! and it started hissing and suddenly turned round and faced us!!!! we thought something was about to go down but luckily we found a stick and poked him til he ran away. His name was Thin Lizzy for the short time we knew him.
It was sooo humid as we were in the proper rainforest climbing through the trees with their big jungle leaves, so I came back down the steps looking like Diana Ross. Dom was absolutely loving driving the moped again and on the way back to the hostel he started racing them at the lights but I don't think they really knew what was going on. We won though! Then it was my turn to try and drive. I drove a bit down the road and Dom got scared I was going to kill everyone so he confiscated the moped off me, but I think I was doing okay! It was really fun!!
Next we went up to Kamala beach, where we were planning to go and see the FantaSea show but decided against it as its horrible that they hurt the elephants when theyre training them to dance, and we only really want to go to feed the baby tigers which we're going to do at Tiger Temple anyway with the monks! Plus FantaSea is £30 each, pffffft!!
Anyway we got to Kamala to yet another incredible room at 'Clear House Phuket'. The whole place is white and clear, it's so cool. Got into the room to find a walk in shower room! or whatever you call them. Best shower yet. (I am so aware that our next place is going to be awful so making the most of this!)
Went for a walk to the beach which is just round the corner, and had a sunbathe and played some bat and ball. As I turned round to pick up the ball Dom frisbee'd his bat at me and it smacked me on the ankle! Which was not the best moment of the trip so far as it made me cry!! But it was alright.
The next day we went back to the beach as the waves are just as big here as in Karon, but a little bit more gentle. They still managed to strip me of my bikini with every wave though! We rented bodyboards and had soooooooo much fun catching waves!! We only got a few really good ones that took us right in to the shore but they were worth it. We've both got big grazes on our stomachs now though as we didnt have wetsuits and the sand must have rubbed into our skin! So we have major warwounds from Kamala but it just proves that we are pro's on the water.
We made friends with a cat at the hostel who is sooooooo cute! She's got a gorgeous nose that's really pink, and we've named her Tigerlily, but over the time we were there her name changed to Sally for some reason. She's so gorgeous though and she keeps coming into our room! Dom was playing with her and she scratched his finger but only nicked the skin. We went to the pharmacy to make sure it was nothing to worry about and the man just said put some antisceptic cream on and 'ehhhh dont worraaaay'. We bought her some mackerel from the 7/11 and put it in the room's ashtray for her and she sniffed it and walked off! How ungrateful, but we love her anyway. It was an emotional goodbye when we went but I haven't got to that yet!
I bought some Havaianas for £3 from a shop down the road, how good! On our last day we didn't really know what to do with ourselves, as instead of booking another night at the hostel we decided it would be best to sleep in the airport for our flight to Singapore at 9am the next morning. So we whiled away the day, rented a moped and went allllll around Phuket! We went to TonSai waterfall which was so much better than Bang Tao waterfall, and we climbed through another rainforest, loved it! It was so good to get back on the moped after the humidity and get the breeze into our frizzy hair. We went all up the coast and found some secret beaches that were deserted! We drove along the cliff side and looked at the view over the sea from up high and it was so weird and silent, and so peaceful. We could have sat there forever! Then on the way back we found a sneaky path down the side of the hill so we drove down there and it was all windy, and we found a tiny deserted beach at the bottom of the hill! It was so beautiful and we just stood there for a bit taking it all in.
We were on our way back to the hostel when we realised we still had some time to kill, and Dom sniffed out a local football match that was going on near Surin beach (one of the beaches on the way back along the coast). We parked in there and watched the match for a while. Dom thought all the players were so tiny, some of their kits were over their knees! At half time the ball was on the pitch and it was calling Dom to go and kick it in the goal but he managed to restrain himself, then in the second half the ball came off the pitch twice in our direction!! So he got his touch. The score was 0-0 in the end!
Went back to the hostel and said goodbye to Tigerlily/Sally :'( and the lady who owned the hostel let us have a shower and sort ourselves out in a room before we set off for the airport which was nice as we had checked out about 10 hours ago!!
So feeling nice and refreshed we started the journey to the airport, light-heartedly not aware of the glorious night's sleep ahead of us.... xxxx
