Arrived in Koh Phi Phi after a dodgy boat ride but it wasn't too bad. As soon as we arrived we knew we loved it there!
Turned right out of the pier and walked along a bit and found we were outside our hostel, Chao Koh Phi Phi Lodge, and we had no idea how incredible it was going to be! Got to our bungalow after walking past the gorgeous pool!!!! And it's massive. We've got a huuuge comfy bed which I think we deserve after all the grotty cardboard mattresses we've been sleeping on. A TV, and a fan on the ceiling. Dom especially can't get over the fact that when you lock the door the electricity goes off, and when you open the door it all comes back on! It's pretty cool. We are right opposite the beach (TonSai Bay), and our hostel has its own restaurant which looks right over the beach with the longtail boats all lined up along it. So beautiful!
After dropping our bags off in the room, we went for a walk to Viewpoint which is up a billion steps and slopes. One set of the steps actually looked like it came back over us it was so steep! We struggled our way up, and got to Viewpoint 1, which was so beautiful. You can see over the whole island from up there, which we had just walked through pretty much, it's so tiny! The town is in a little line and there's a beach either side of it, it was so cool to see from up there. Kept trekking our way up and got to Viewpoint 2, and we were speechless. It was actually breathtaking up there! You can see the whole town, the beaches either side of it, the mountains all around, the smaller islands off in the distance, and the sun was just setting as we got up there. It was so perfect! The only problem was there were so many mosquitos up there and they were loving us, so we started the walk back down, and once we got down both of our legs were shaking and going mad!! I suppose it's from not doing very much the last few weeks!
By the way there are no roads on Phi Phi! Which means no cars. Everyone walks or goes by bike on little sandy paths, it's so lovely. This is our favourite place by far!!
The next day the weather wasn't too good but we went to explore Long Beach. We walked along our beach, then had to climb through the forest for half an hour to get there. It was so cool! We climbed huge rocks, trees, and wooden steps, and walked through little local communities hidden in the forest with their own tiny beaches on the way. When we got to Long Beach we couldn't believe our eyes, it was sooooo beautiful! I can't even begin to explain. It had been raining on the way which was a good thing, we needed it to help us do all the climbing! So I can't imagine how beautiful Long Beach would be in the usual sun. That night we went and got a fishy pedicure at Dr Fish. Dom found it sooooo tickly hahaha, it was so hilarious! It was quite hard to handle actually and I've had one before, they must use extra tickly fish. Our feet felt gorgeous afterwards and we got some good pics!
On our last day, we had the best day yet!!!! We went on a half day sunset boat trip around Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Leh, which included Maya Bay where 'The Beach' was filmed! We started by going to Monkey Beach, the name says it all...There were monkeys hanging out on the beach, and they loved all the attention! They were posing for the cameras, climbing all over each other. One was sitting on a tree branch and another climbed up his tail, and one of them was drinking a Chang beer out of the can!! As we sailed off on the long tail boat back to our bigger boat, they were climbing up the cliffs and hiding in the trees. So gorgeous!
From there we went to Viking Caves, where we could see a few remnants of shipwrecks. The guides showed us pictures of etchings on the walls inside the caves that Vikings have left, and there are swallow spit birds nests inside, which the Thai's make soup out of, and make 50 million Baht from a year!! (I think this is right, this is what we got from the guide's broken English, and that's why we weren't allowed inside). By the way, the guide was wearing a Newcastle shirt!!!!??
After the Viking Caves, we went to Pi-Leh Lagoon, where we kayaked around the emerald waters. Dom did most of the work and I took the pictures, but I did do some kayaking too! It was so incredible I honestly can't explain. I know I keep saying that but everything is so beautiful beyond words. We kayaked back to the bigger boat, then got our snorkels on and got into the water! The fish were AMAZING!!!! They were so bright and colourful, and swimming right next to us! The boys on the boat were throwing bits of rice into the water where we were so the fish kept coming around us. It took me a minute to get the hang of snorkelling but once I got it I absolutely loved it. We were swimming around for ages looking at them all. We saw angel fish, black and white ones, and bright yellow and blue stripy ones which were the most amazing! We got back on the boat, and were given pineapple to eat from one of the boys, and he was wearing a werewolf mask! It was so hilarious, because he was just like Michael Jackson hahaha. There was another boy who I thought was the Thai version of Dom's bro but he was having none of it.
Next we went to Loh Samah Bay. I'm not sure what they usually do here, but as a storm was apparently coming and we couldn't sail around to Maya Bay, we kayaked from the boat to the bay, where there were ropes and steps to climb up. Me and Dom snuck into a cave and walked through the rock pools as everyone else was going via the steps. We walked around the little paths between the big green jungle leaves, and as the sand got whiter we saw the bright turquoise sea of Maya Bay!
As we walked out on to the sand I almost cried!! Partly because of how amazing and beautiful it is, and partly because I was walking on the same sand as Leonardo once did!! Omg I still can't even believe it arghhhh. We had about an hour here to take it all in and we really did. We took a million pictures, and climbed over rocks to get to the smaller little patches of sand, which we recognised from the film when they sit under the trees while it's raining! We wanted to savour every single second there because it was such a major experience and probably the most beautiful thing either of us had ever seen.
We made friends with two French boys from Brittany on the boat. They were so funny and running about on the beach taking pics with the flag of Brittany, and they asked us if we wanted to go clubbing in Phi Phi that night, but as we had to get up the next day to get the boat to Phuket we couldn't really, but it would have been so fun.
We were meant to watch the sunset on Maya Bay, but as the storm was a-brewing, we all went back to the boat (me, dom and the french boys holding it up as we were taking pics!). We started on our way back, and as we crossed between the islands the sun was started to set so they turned the boat around and we stopped in between the islands to watch it set. We took group pictures, and we were standing there for so long taking pics that everyone started to feel ill because the boat was going mad on the waves! It was awful but after a lie down we were alright again. After the amazing sunset we sailed a bit further on, then got on a longtail boat which took us back to TonSai Bay near the hotel. The day usually includes a meal on the boat but again because of the waves it wasn't a good plan so they took us to Hippies bar for a free buffet dinner. Dom didn't like the look of it so we escaped and went to Hello India for the best curry ever!! It was just what we needed after a long day of adventures. We went and got some pancakes from a stall for pudding as well. It was such a perfect day.
The next day we got up and had a bit of time to kill before the boat so we looked round a few shops. I got an 'I
