Hi everyone!
We got here safely last night, after what seemed like the longest flight in history. But we had amazing in flight entertainment, then a taxi ride with a mental driver who kept talking to us and we didnt have a clue what he was saying, except that he supports Man Utd!
We got to our room at the New Road Guest House after the taxi man getting lost more than once, and its so gorgeous here. Our room is quite small and basic but it's all we need - we've got a fridge for drinks! The room is like a sauna, probably hotter than a sauna actually, but cold showers are getting us by.
We went for a walk after waking up really late with our jet lag, and everything is so beautiful. It's quite poor and dirty as you'd imagine but every now and then there is a temple, school, post office or train station made of gold and blue jewels and they're so gorge.
We have been and booked our trip down to Koh Samui on the 3rd and we'll be arriving on the 4th after a 15 hour coach trip and a 2 and a half hour boat ride. We've got the most incredible bungalow booked for when we arrive though, 6 pounds a night and one minute's walk away from the beach so can't wait for that.
We're going for a walk along the river to Khao San Road tomorrow which is where all the action is apparently! So will keep you updated...xxxx
On the other two days, we did all the sights. We travelled round mostly by Tuk-Tuk but the drivers are so jammy - one of them said an hour for 30 Baht and once we had been to a few places he said we had to go and visit his sponsor otherwise he would charge us 200 Baht! So we had to go and sit in this awkward tailor's shop and pretend to look through their catalogues! Then he dropped us at what he said was The Golden Mount but it wasnt at all! But another trustworthy one took us there fine.
Bangkok is soooooo humid I can't even explain. It only went up to 31 degrees while we were there but it seemed so much hotter because of the humidity and the fact we couldn't breathe! Still loved every second though.
Also on the evening of our last night our bed broke! Dom stood up on it and started surfing in the mirror hahaha, and one of the legs came off!! So we told the man and he moved us to the Penthouse apartment on the top floor!! We had a massive comfy bed, a TV, a fridge, AIR CON!!!!, and a way nicer bathroom so that was incredible. Earlier Dom had said he might try and break the fan so they move us, so it was fate obviously.
On the last day there we didn't really know what to do with ourselves because we had checked out and had to wait 7 hours for the coach, so we just walked around. We saw the Lebua at State which is the white building in the Hangover 2 with the gold dome on the roof! And tried to go up to the top but we went through to where the lifts are and everyone was dressed in suits and really smart dresses, there was a man playing the piano and everything so we felt a bit out of place in our shorts, baggy tops and flip flops haha. We found a Thai massage place that was really cheap so we both had a shoulder neck and back massage, and it felt like we were getting beaten up!!!! We were lying down and these women were crawling all over us, pulling our arms out the sockets, digging their elbows into our shoulders...but afterwards we felt amazing, and all for 3 pounds! We kept looking at each other and laughing (trying not to cry!) and my masseuse kept saying NO SMILE! and NO TEETH! hahaha, but then they got a bit friendlier and named Dom 'Bakhamnoi' and me 'aliamnoi', and they kept getting us to say 'hi Bakhamnoi!' and 'bye aliamnoi!' to each other, and we're sure these names were something dodgy.
We had a trusty McDonalds for dinner (third night running), but then we did go to a proper noodle bar on the last night, where everyone kept bowing to us! Found a Tesco!! in the middle of China Town but it was nothing compared to English Tesco, we were looking for the bacon pasta bowls mmm but no such luck.
So at the end of Bangkok, we can say we loved it, especially once we got upgraded! The only problem was it was soooo hot, most of the time Dom looked like he had just got out of the shower becuse he was dripping with sweat! We love a bit of heat dont get me wrong, but this was beyond words, and not even a tan at the end of it.
Also just a note, at the end of our stay in Bangkok, the ladyboy count is 9. Including one who had hairier legs than Dom and was going bald on his/her head! Gorgeous. xx
