Made the most of our buffet style breakfast (toast and cereal). Headed to the airport for flight to Havana, Cuba. A local posing as an official taxi person took us to Havana centre in his 1950s American style car. Soon noticed that most of the cars were like this and many broke down on a regular basis. Rose early to beat the chichen itza crowds and were the 3rd and 4th people through the gates. It was worth it to see all of the main buildings without the hundreds of tour groups (and of course get some good snaps without the inconvenience of other tourists!) The ruins (although much less ruined that many others we have seen) were really interesting and quite amazing - glad our 2nd forced detour forced us back to tick off one of the 7 wonders of the modern world....

After a fearful night wondering whether our cabana would blow away or flood, we took an early bus to Chichen Itza. Woke to the heat of the morning sun and walked to tulum ruins along with coach loads of Cancun holiday makers and whiney kids. Got soaked by the arrival of a storm, despite sheltering under some palm trees with some resident iguanas - although rain quite welcoming given the heat. Tried to head to Chichen Itza ruins (one of the seven wonders of the world). All roads leading there blocked by locals because of some political protest. Last minute change of plan and headed south to Tulum. Checked in to a cabana, little shack type thing with a thatched roof and nothing much else, on the tulum beach, which occasionally had to share with iguanas.
