Awoke to 2 lime green tropical birds chirping away on our balcony, who then took up pirch on the electricity cables, posing for a photo shoot. Surf lessons at el remanso beach (another nice little bay) followed by a few hours catching some waves on our own - both of us somewhat surprised at our ability to stand! Back to town for our first 2 hours at Spanish school - just us 2 in a classroom with 1 teacher. Just sneaked in some tacos and burritos before going on a turtle tour to a nearby reserve, one of only 7 places worldwide where the Olive Ridley turtles go to nest in mass. In a day where we had learned to surf and gone back to school, this was the highlight. Hundreds and hundreds of turtles on the same small strip of beach - so many it was difficult to avoid tripping over them or get out of their way - surprisingly quick when on the move. These are the smallest of the sea turtles I think, yet they were huge, up to a metre long. Watched a couple of them laying their eggs (see photo) and them waddle out and dive back in to the sea. They get the job done in less than an hour so given the numbers of them there is a huge amount of activity. Quite remarkable.
