Had a very leisurely carribean morning, with a dip in the sea followed by breakfast followed by sitting about doing not a lot. Things quickly changed when after catching boat to the mainland and Belize city, found out the bus for which we had been sold a ticket (to Flores in Guatemala) didn't actually exist. Unfazed (well, ok, a bit miffed), 2 short taxis, 2 local belizian buses, 1 11-hour Guatemalan overnight bus (no not a relatively nice one for tourists), and ...

Hit the second largest reef in the world for a spot of snorkelling. Saw all kinds of tropical fish, eels, rays, shells, coral, but the highlight was no doubt the swimming with sharks and massive stingrays....together - you had to be on your toes! Spent afternoon lazing around the seafront and swimming off the pier in the exceedingly warm sea. Hogroast buffet and a belizian lighthouse beer on a jetty over the sea.

Trudged in rather hot sun to the playa del carmen bus station for bus to chetumal (Mexico). Short bus to ferry port, through Mex border and small choppy boat to carribean islands off the east coast of Belize. First stop San pedro on amerbigi caye, where the 'crew'/local pirates did their best to leave our bags on a random street corner in typical 'laid back' / general lack of organisation carribean style.
