After 2 days bed rest I'm feeling much better than I was, and ready to get back to the streets of manhattan. I'm sure I am scaring people with my cough though, they keep telling me bless you after I cough.
Jane wants to return to the Chelsea market to get some take home presents, and we both end up spending money at different places - Jane a new handbag at Kenneth Cole, and me some gorgeous vintage plates from La Maison Supreme. I have been looking at different ones from Tiffany and Limoges and they are very very expensive, I found some very similar and vintage at much better prices at a store full of Art Deco and other vintage finds.
We have been walking the streets around this area, as far as the west village. They are full of terrace rows of townhouses, in cobblestoned streets. It's a young hip crowd, and i see another famous actor from the film les miserables, Eddie Redmayne walking the streets. Every corner has a cute cafe, and we have lunch in tartine, which did a fixed price lunch of $15, which included a fresh salad, and then a choice of coq au vin or chicken Milanese. I will definately be returning for a weekend brunch, but by the time we were ready to go we had walked most of the streets of the neighbourhood. It would be a nice place to live, but this area is some of the most expensive and sought after real estate in New York.
We have moved on now to the upper east side, as tonight is the Free night to go to the Neue Gallerie, which is a private art collection of German / Austrian origin, mostly Gustav Klimt, and quite a bit of it from Estée lauders private collection. Only two rooms were available for viewing as they are changing over exhibitions, but the art was beautiful. A nice surprise was the Austrian cafe onsite that sold bratwurst and Sacher torte, which ended up being my dinner tonight!
We are currently in a Starbucks using the Internet (a cultural stepdown), and will soon be returning to scarsdale to unwind for the night!
