I had a very lazy morning at the apartment reading a great book, Wild by Cheryl Strayed about her experience of the pacific coastal trail. I don't leave until after midday, but the idea of a movie brings me back to the flatiron district where I passed a nice looking cinema. Unfortunately once I get there, there's nothing on that I want to see, or I've seen it all.
It's lunch time and I'm hungry, and the fixed price menu at ABC kitchen entices me in, as does the funky space heaving with late lunchers like me. The food is organic and vegetable focused, the decor is antique cutlery and plates mixed with minimal handmade ceramics in a warehouse basement with white walls, wood beams and chandeliers. I order sweet pea, carrot and mint soup, a vibrant green and so tasty. I had just finished when a waiter appears with a surprise course, a carrot, avocardo and goats cheese salad to go with my spicy chicken palliard with asparagus and oyster mushrooms. I cannot even half finish but they taste amazing. The waiter boxes the leftovers up for my dinner. The fancier the restaurant, the more they want to do this. I don't refuse as its dinner.
The piece de resistance is the dessert - hot chocolate fudge, generously sprinkled with roasted nuts and caramel popcorn, topped with salted caramel icecream and cream. I cannot finish it but I give it a red hot try! All this for $32 plus tip and tax.
I walk around the neighboring streets, admiring the shop windows and some of the obviously expensive real estate of the area. But I decide to return back to scarsdale mid afternoon. I miss the increased security that got amped up at grand central and other significant sites around the city. I find out when I get home about the boston marathon bombings. My night will be spent watching updates, this is very sad.
