Another Saturday..... Another brunch...... Another corner of Brooklyn to explore. We started with the Brooklyn flea - an outdoor flea market that sells all sorts of things from street food to street signs, vintage and new clothes, and everything in between. Everyone was out to enjoy the sunshine, which makes for great atmosphere, but nothing really tempted us at the markets. We moved on to an area of Brooklyn I have been looking forward to exploring - Williamsburg.
Williamsburg is on the north shore of Brooklyn, one stop on the subway from manhattan, and is like the valley in Brisbane. Lots of industrial buildings taken over and turned into apartments, lots of bars and restaurants and interesting shops, and plenty of new modern architecture mixed in with the shabby old.
We walked first to the east river park, for great views of the manhattan skyline, and to see the crowds enjoying a food event staged in tents along the waterfront. I had already sampled some vegetarian samosas at the market so was happy to wait for our brunch at cafe cubana. I had a wicked Bloody Mary in a jar! With a chorizo empanadas and the Cuban version of creme caramel (denser custard made with dolce de leche).
The streets are full of street art and pop up stores and food vans. It makes for very interesting photographs and exploring. We did find a shop that sold shoes from Spain, and we both have a new pair now! In fact the shops were very interesting to brouse in, and I've included lots of photos in the album. There are cafes and bars everywhere and the streets are just heaving with people on this fine day!
