We arrived in Hervey Bay on Monday. We were only there 1 night as we were going to Fraser Island in the morning, it was lucky really as there was nothing much to do in Hervey Bay!!
We woke up early and got on the bus to the ferry terminal, the ferry only took about 40 mins to get to Fraser Island. When we arrived we were greeted by Rob our driver and our bags were taken straight to the lodge. I thought we would be travelling in a small jeep as Fraser Island is the biggest sand island in the world but when we arrived it was a huge bus that looked a bit like a lorry with massive wheels, it took about 40 people!!!
We got going straight away, it was like a rolercoaster and by the time we stopped my bum was killing from all the bouncing up and down. It was funny though!! Our first stop was to a fresh water lake, it was really beautiful and we all went in which was nice and refreshing, we chilled out there for about 30 mins then went on a bit of a trek through the rainforest to get to where we were having our lunch. It was quite nice but hard work as it was quite steep.
We got to a picnic area and had a really nice lunch then went on another walk down by the river and through the forest, I was a bit scared as aparently the last few times they had done this walk there had been a huge python laying on the track, luckily though we didn't see it!!!!!
After the walk we got back on the bus and went to lake Mackenzie which is another fresh water lake but more famous and a lot bigger. Again it was beautiful, we had a bit longer to chill out here so went for a swim, chatted with the others from the bus and did a bit of sunbathing, really nice day!
After this we headed back to the lodge, it was really nice, each unit had about 5 room that held 4 people, we had a big dinning area and a large balcony so when we put our bags down we all went and sat on the balcony and had a few drinks before dinner. The people in our unit were really nice, there was a couple who were Polish but now live in London, they were really funny and I found it quite difficult not to laugh everytime he opened his mouth though because he sounded just like Borat!!!
We went over and had dinner then a few drinks and a boogie in the club before going to bed. When we got back to our room Kat had Ants all over her bed and as there was no other space she had to share mine which wasn't the most comfortable as I had a top bunk!!!
The next day we set off after breakfast and headed down to East Beach, it is really funny beacause their beaches are also highways so as you driving down the beach there are road signs. We stopped at eeli ?? Creek then headed up to a lookout point called Indian head. Unfortunately on the way the bus got stuck in the sand so we all had to get out and walk up there It was a really steep walk but well worth it, the view was amazing, you could see right back over the island one side then the other side was the sea which you were right over. We sat on the rocks for a while looking out to sea and we saw some dolphins and sharks swimming beneath us.
We then walked back down to where we had left the bus and had our lunch on the beach which was nice, you were advised not to go in the sea as there are loads of sharks in there. After lunch we went to a place called champagne pools, they were really nice as well, they were basically rock pools that you could swim in and when the waves crashed over them it looked like champagne bubbling.
We then headed back to the bus which took us to the ferry terminal to get back to Hervey Bay. Again we only stayed 1 night in Hervey bay then got the bus to Noosa.
