Waitomo was our next destination, but on our way to this magical place, we had quite possibly the oddest stop off on the whole journey. We went to a place where they breed Angora rabbits, which are basically the biggest balls of fluff I have ever seen. You don't even get slightly prepared for what is coming next, and go into this kinda little shop, where two older women welcome you and introduce you to one of the rabbits. Our rabbit only had one ear, which confused me abit anyway. Then take us into another room, where they explain that the coats on these rabbits make them too hot, so they can't actually mate, so for them to do what rabbits do best, they have to shave them.I can deal with all this until they put them on the rack!!Check out the picture, its ridiculous!!They tie the legs up and start shaving!!Then as they go, they turn the rabbit round so eventually its upside down, then at this point, the let a load of Kiwi Bus people walk around the poor thing and take photos of it!It mental. The funniest thing is the end result after they have been shaved - they just look hilarious - look at the photos!
After this little treat, we head into Waitomo, which is the place you go Black Water Caving. Its wicked - me and a couple of the girls sign up to do the three hour Black Labyrinth, which involves you going around the caves on huge individual rubber rings! You have to get kitted into these massive thermal wetsuits, with jackets, sock and shorts.I think this has been the ugliest outfit I have ever worn in my life! You then test your bum for the right size ring, and have a little practice jumping off edges into it in the water. So funny, and so cold! Then we don our helmets complete with lights, and head to the caves.I think this was one of the most fantastic experiences of the whole trip - you just can't believe you are in a cave so deep. Its pitch black. You do climbing, jumping down waterfalls, and generally just floating alone in your ring. There are times when we all turn our lights off to complete darkness, and just follow the light of the glow-worms along. Its is amazing!I was terrified at times, but this just made it better.
