Bar Harbour is the jewel in Maine's crown and its oldest summer resort. Whilst the coastal views and spruce forests are impressive Arcadia National Park draws enourmous crowds, especially in July and August. Despite the gorgeous scenery just outside town there are lots of distractions in Bar Harbour. Restaurants, taverns and shops are scattered along the Main St and we certainly gave the outdoor gear shops the benefit of our credit cards and in the end had to keep away from them as we were too tempted.

We cycled the 27 mile loop road inside the park which cut through forest and along the shore line and climbed mount cadillac which is the highest point on the coast of Maine and was well worth the leg power as once again the views from the top were stunning. We were lucky as the three days we spent in Bar Harbour saw glorious sunny days with good temperatures until later in the evening when it got a bit chilly.

We had planned to do the cyle again as unfortunately we missed part of it as we hadn't realised that part of the route was one way and we had gone 'the wrong way round'. However, on the day were were to do it the heavens opened and in the end after spending 3 days in Bar Harbour we decided to move on. We had to pack all our stuff up once again in the pouring rain and we headed off in the direction of Canada, stopping in a hotel in a place called Calais, the small border town where we cross into Canada.
