Covering a quarter of New Hampshire the vast White Mountains area ia spectacular region of high peaks and lush valleys and contains New Hampshire's most rugged mountains. There are many activities on offer including hiking, camping, skiing and canoeing. We travelled along the Kancamagus Highway a scenic road by the side of a wandering river which was only tarmaced in the 60's and offers easy access to many National Forest campsires. We stayed at Jigger Johnson campsite which had long drop toilets but the added luxury of showers. there were many hiking trails out of the camp and we chose on which was a quite a climb, gave spectacular views and took us about 4 hours.
The small towns in the area were not much to speak off, just stopping off places to get your kit sorted and food supplies for camping in the forest
