On the way to Sedona we passed through Flagstaff another interesting Arizona western town with lots of old historic buildings.
You won't see rock formations the colour of Sedona's anywhere else in the world they truly blaze with orange, gold and crimson and the sun set on the rocks is absolutely awesome it is so stunning it looks like it has been speciially lit. This is a popular tourist destination with many gift shops and galleries in the centre of town together with the craft village made to look like a Mexican pueblo. This is actually a lovely place to spend a couple of hours or have a meal as it has plenty of trees and small fountains and is a nice refuge from the blazing heat of Arizona.
We did a hike here out to the old Courthouse Rock and walked the trail around the bottom of it. It was only about 5 miles, Peter enjoyed it but I thought hiking out in the desert in over 30 degrees in the dust with no shade and was not really my idea of a hike for pleasure, more torture and was glad to see the truck when we finished.
