Once on Prince Edward Island we headed for the capital charlottetowne which has the perks of urban life, coffee shops and a lively cultural scene, although about 15 years behind back in time.

PEI stretches 224k tip to tip and there is a cycle path whick goes from one end to the other on a disused railway line which has been graded and covered in gravel. We decided to cycle some of the route which takes you out of the centre and through open countryside. We have since decided we will never cycle on old railway track again as after a while peddling on totally flat terrain with no hills to free-wheel down, combined with the effort of paddling on gravel is horrendously tiring. We never got to our chosen destination, deciding to turn back with about 5 miles to go and we still managed to have done 40 miles getting back completely worn out without even the energy to go out again into town.

Leaving PEI we opted for the bridge route which was 8 miles across back to New Brunswick and sitting high up in the truck we had a good view over the concrete sides of the bridge out to sea.
