Roughly 60k north west of Banff is Lake Louise often referred to as the jewel of the rockies. The lake itself is a beautiful turquoise colour surrounded by mountains. The Victoria Glacier is at the end of the lake whilst the surrounding mountains make the whole picture look manufactured it is so stunning. At the other end of the lake is Chateau Lake Louise and depending on your opinion is either beautiful of looks like a German prison! Lake Louise is both stunning and at this time of year overrun with tourists but visiting the lake is a must. We did a good hike up high above the lake out to one of the old tea houses built by the victorians which to this day still sell tea and cakes. There isn't much of a town to speak of just a visitor centre and a few shops.
In the campsite in Jasper, as our vehicle with the top us is classed as soft sided we had to stay where the tenters stay without on site electricity or water plug ins for the camper. This is because we were in bear country and bears will approach tent sites as they can smell food and get into the tents. The campground was protected by an electrified fence to protect humans from bears and bears from humans. A bear that has become habituated which means it is not afraid of coming into contact with humans ie. raiding bins and tents can become very dangerous and may sometimes have to be destroyed if it becomes a nuisance.
