Early 8:00 pick up after nice breakfast buffet G.O tours again. Guide is Catalina and we have about 25 - 30 on our half day city tour. Out of the bus for Pictures at modern Olympic stadium. Drive around town then walk up to New Acropolis museum. We are appreciating Mili. Catalina’s English not as good and she is rushed. Museum fascinating with Statues and reliefs. Guide took plenty of time to tell us about Lord Byron taking the reliefs to England and how wrong. He broke the marble and lost some at sea. Now that they have such a nice museum I am swaying toward England giving them back. Back down to first floor and it is packed with people. We must have been early to arrive. She takes too long in the museum and now short on time at Acropolis plus it is burning hot!! We are prepared with water hats and my cooling neckerchief. Our group dwindles as the hour goes on. She was pretty interesting telling about the temples. At the end I had a tip for her but she abruptly ended and walked off. I think she was over heated. We walked around the Acropolis again with Grant taking pictures and reading signs about restoration. The whole west end ofParthenon was under scaffolding . As we are leaving Grant wants to walk down to theatre. We let him go alone and met him at exit on a bench under a shade tree. Even In this heat there must have been the average 10,000 people. I have been eyeing the rock of Areopagus this is were Paul preached of Jesus in Athens by an account in Acts. As we exit, the rock is directly in front of us. I had decided not to make an extra effort but there is it. Climbed up and imagined Paul. We did not have passage Acts with us but will read tonight. Slowly walk back to Plaka and sit at first tavern. We are getting lucky. This one rated 4.5 on google. First had wonderful seat under a mister. We were so hot. Then able to change tables cause too wet! I had gemista again! 4th day! Rick and grant had gyro. Food was very good. Grant ordered his first beer( that we know of) but as assumed, Doesn’t like it much. Back to National Laundry for 48 Europe worth of cleaning then to hotel. Laundry was heavy and walk was hot! We were dying again as entered hotel. It’s only 2:00 and I have over 10,000 steps. We take naps and relax rest of afternoon. Studied internet for place for dinner. Plan A was closed but I knew from reading that map on door was pointing to tavern owned by kids. We walked around Block and sat down. Very casual and small place with mostly tourist that read like me. Menu not the same as other place. Much more limited. Very quiet place and rick would have liked more action. They both had cumin meatballs with rice. I had whole grilled calamari. ( which is what I was after). The presentation of the whole animal
Is so unusual to us. Liked it just ok. Don’t have to order again. We also had Greek salad. Best yet. Tomatoes were good. I had read about a dessert place that serve a traditional Greek dessert called loukomoudes. They are fried donut holes. Grant read the map and lead the way. It was a new hip place that rates best dessert in Athens by Trip Advisor. We ordered traditional honey and cinnamon. Lemon filled with chocolate and ice cream. Banoffee with bananas filling and Carmel sauce and ice cream. All so good. It was hopping and Wok place next door too. Mostly young people. Rick sat on picnic table next to A man that looked homeless but spoke English to Rick and was nice. He was local and Told him this donut was traditional. We think this concept would be a money maker on a college campus. Walk back up Emou shopping street full of American brands to hotel. Hot again as reach room. 14752 steps today
