Slept in till late morning. We needed it!! Took laundry to National Cleaners ( 12 kilo worth) on way to Ancient Agora. Confusing at first since we didn’t have a guide. Found the museum and that explained a lot of the tearing down and rebuilding, abandon and rebuild. Ran into your friends from Perth. They had been up on Acropolis and said crowded and hot! Ventured into the heat to walk the ruins. The temple of Hephisus is the best preserved temple in Greece. Grant wanted to walk every last ruin and read the signs. I’m trying to be a trooper but melting! Walked outside gate and randomly sat down for lunch. Had a table with an archeological dig on one side and view of Acropolis on the other. Waiter was nice to us. Even brought a bucket of ice. I had yummy gemista, rick had souvlaki and Grant a chicken salad . Taziki to start. Fun watching the college interns dig but they quit while we eating( I think too hot). Easily found a taxi to the National Archeological
museum. I knew before we started that Grant would not have enough time. I made us see the Mycenae treasure in the beginning . The gold found is so much and awesome and decorative for 2000 BC. They had a special exhibit about Beauty. Had several of the most famous pieces from museum in one exhibit. Had example of perfume from a recipe off a stone tablet. Smelled like wine mixed with flowers . Ran into New Zealand couple from tour. They told us to be sure and see artifacts from Santorini. When they toured the guide kept saying....” It’s at the museum in Athens”. Legs were killing me by the time Grant was finished. Had to check my backpack and left my phone inside so don’t know how many steps but a lot !!! Taxi to hotel to rest for dinner. Reservations at Strofi’s from Rick Steve’s. Up On terrace with Acropolis views. Watched the light fade and lights turn onto Parthenon. Great evening with good food. We had grilled feta with tomato, fried calamari. I had goat and potatoes in parchment, Grant fried salt cod, rick grilled lamb chops. Baklava (the best) and bread with mastic ice cream and sour cherries. All so so good. Patio mostly tourist . Young Man next to us grew up in Ada. Taxi to hotel. Taxis seem to cost us 5 euro.
