The flight to sao Paulo was really quick, about an hour, we then had to go out of the terminal and back in again to get to our next gate. There were no signs anywhere of where to go so we had to ask someone which was stupid, the airport was huge and had tonnes of restaurants takeaways and shops, but these were all before security so once we went through there was one duty free and then about 5 small coffee shops all selling the same overpriced snack. There was no indication or maps anywhere to suggest you should eat before going through. We got a few pastries which were horrible and then went to look at cameras, we decided on one and bought it and barely had any time to wait before boarding the flight. The flight was great, we had pillows and blankets and a really good selection of films on our TV's, we watched the hobbit 2 and 12 years a slave. We also got decent meals as well, beef with mash and a chicken pasta bake. We got picked up from the airport which was great, the hotel was nice which was great after Rio and we fell asleep almost straight away.
The following day we didn't do much at all, we got something to eat next door at a set menu place and watched TV in the room, we didn't have WiFi in the room so we had to sit downstairs for a bit to book buses and hostels for the next few days.
We then went into town for dinner and got a wrap from a huge shopping mall then went back to watch big bang theory and criminal minds.
The next day we did a free walking tour which was pretty good but incredibly hot, we saw a lot of the sights and found lima a very nice city. We got a takeaway pizza hut to eat in the hotel that night while there was a big bang theory marathon on TV showing all the new episodes, it was a nice relaxing break after the tour and Rio and before we struggle on to the next bit by ourselves.
The next morning we got a taxi to get on the nice Cruz del sure buses up to Trujillo, the bus ride was long, about twelve hours but easy and comfy while watching films and getting meals served to us. We got into Trujillo late but not too bad and went to the hostel. The following day we got up and went to the ruins in the early afternoon. We went to three different sites and a museum which were really interesting, we were the only ones there for a couple of them and they had to get people to come and unlock the gates for us to go in. The ruins were very busy g and had patterns and drawings etched into the walls similar to ones in Egypt. The next day we didn't do much apart from walk along the beach for a bit and then sit on the balcony while we waited until it was time to get our bus. We headed out for dinner at about 7 but all the restaurants had shut already and it was like a ghost town which was very bizarre. We found one place and ordered some chicken and rice, one was OK but I cut into mine and it was fully raw in the middle, enough to make you very I'll. We then eventually made it to our bus which was thankfully on time.
We made it to Mancora the next morning and it was really hot when we got off the bus, we were expecting a pick up but it wasn't there so we had to get a tuktuk and hike up a massive slope to get to the hostel. The woman at the hostel said that she didn't think we would get in at that time and buses arrive in the afternoon, even though we emailed them saying what time we would be getting in. We were staying in little huts/cabins which were nice but we didn't get one with a sea view.
It was a quiet small town with not much to do apart from the beach. We strolled around town and ate at a set menu place a couple of times that did really good fried cheese with dip. We spent some time on the hammocks outside our hut but we had to put towels over our heads because there were lots of small flies and mosquitoes that were buzzing round and seemed to keep flying into our eyes and ears.
We also spent a bit of time on the beach but not too long before we got bored, we didn't get in the sea because it was freezing.
The next day we checked out and got money knocked off of our bill because when we booked it said breakfast was included but it wasn't. We got to the bus stop where people where hailing us over and they halted the bus as it was just taking off. We got there on time but we expected it to be about two hours late because ours was. We very very nearly missed it and are very lucky we didn't because we would be stuck otherwise. We got to watch the hunger games 2 on the bus which we enjoyed. We got to the border which took ages because there was only 2 people working at the desks and they would wonder off and start conversations and just not want to do their jobs.
We arrived at Guayaquil and got a chicken BBQ burger then went straight to sleep for another bus day the next day.
