We had to wait to cross over to Brazil because the visas people needed weren't ready for collection until 11am so we booked Christ the Redeemer tickets for Rio because we were worried it would be full for carnaval.
The crossing was relatively easy but the stamp was rubbish! We arrived in the campsite and it started absolutely pouring buckets! As we had also lost an hour from the time difference it was already 4pm by the time lunch was over and I was on cook group so had to have donner ready by 7:30. We, along with a few others, decoded not to do anything that day and all just had a few drinks. After dinner (hamburgers and salad) all the truck groups, there was around 4 other trucks there all moved to the pool area. Here we played beer pong, pushed everyone in the poo and had cake fights! It was a really good night and we didn't get to bed till 5am.
The next day we woke at around 9:30 from the heat of the sun, and after breakfast decided to head to Paraguay with a guy called Neil. There was so much to do in for it was a shame we only got one full day, but we couldn't pass up the opportunity of going to a different country!
We took a bus to the immigration border then walked across a long bridge to the Paraguay immigration. The bridge was so full of cars and buses crossing the border, and nobody bothered to get stamped. Of the thousands of people crossing every hour, we were the only people in the immigration office. The border workers actually laughed when we came in!
Paraguay was completely different to Brazil, even in that border town. It was hectic and crazy and kind of reminded us of Africa. It was easy to see that it was a lot poorer than Brazil, but I still really liked it. We first went to an exchange place to get some Guaranis, the Paraguayan currency. Then headed to a shopping centre exclusively selling electronics as Paraguay is known for selling them extremely cheap. There were so many shops selling absolutely every kind of electrical item. We wanted a USB stick to put movies on from peoples hard drives that were on the truck. We had to be sure that it wasn't fake, as a lot of the things were fake and sometimes if you weren't careful you would get an empty box for your money. We went in a few but didn't find them all that cheap! We also went around the market stall outside where they were selling guns right above children's toys, we were looking for souvenirs but couldn't find any.
After a few hours in Paraguay, we headed back over the border but finding a bus back was overly difficult and after trying for an hour we decided to get a taxi back into town. Everything is so expensive in Brazil that we ended up wandering round trying to find something reasonable to eat and then giving up and going back to the campsite for food. A large pizza hut pizza was like $40!!
