We arrived in Arequipa early and weren't able in to check in so we had to wander round the town early on a Sunday with not a lot going on. It was a bit boring, and as we had just come off a night bus we were not in the mood to explore.
We inquired about doing the colca canyon nearby but the day trip consisted of getting picked up at 3am?! And we decided against it.
We did decide to do the free tour, where we met a girl who had travelled down from mexico so we could ask her a lot of questions about central america. The free tour was OK but not nearly as good as the ones in Europe so we didn't learn very much about the city but we did get to touch some llamas! And that was cool!
We got some national cocktails called pisco sours and some beer overlooking the main square in Arequipa which had gone all out with Christmas decorations which was nice. After a few more drinks we then decided to try guinea pig which is called cuy here. I thought they were bigger then at home but they were the same size and there was literally no meat on them just skin. As theres no meat they just split it down the belly and take the guts out so it still has a head and everything! We still liked it,tasted like crispy duck, probably wouldn't get it again though as it is rather expensive compared to other food here. We also tried a traditional stuffed pepper that tasted really good but again expensive.
We had to get a night bus again that night to Cusco, and on this bus we got a proper meal and everything just like on a plane! Still not used to sleeping on buses though as the roads are so curvy that I feel we are going to crash at any moment! I prefer trains!
