Hot and sunny morning in down town West Hollywood. Had some fruit and yoghurt for breakfast then headed off down Santa Monica Boulevard for coffee as awake pretty early. Back in time for our 945am pick up for our two hour open top van tour of Hollywood, Beverly Hills and celebrities homes. Was thoroughly enjoyable - fun in the open air on such a hot day plus was so informative. The drive along the winding Mulholland Drive was great especially the stop to view the Hollywood sign, as well as down to the Hollywood Bowl and the first of an incredible number of celebrity homes. Admittedly many were homes where a particular celebrity once lived or sometimes you couldn't see beyond a massive gate, but overall it was definitely impressive and exciting. I won't possibly remember them all but some included Lucille Ball, Ernest Bourgnine, George Clooney, Kylie Minogue, Madonna, Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Brad Pitt, Gwen Stefani, Jack Nicholson......and the names go on......And it was unreal to see such iconic addresses as Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset Boulevard and Rodeo Drive. Loved how the guide pointed out famous clubs and venues like "Whiskey-a-go-go" and the Viper Room and restaurants were celebrities are often spotted. Once the tour was over we had a hot dog and soda at the Disney Soda fountain on Hollywood boulevard then checked out the nearby sights - Hollywood walk of fame (the endless number of stars on the pavement emblazoned with the name of a famous actor, singer or musician); the section of pavement in front of the Chinese Theatre with hand and footprints and signatures of Hollywood personalities through history; not to mention the Dolby Theatre (used to be Kodak) where Academy Awards are held. Also checked out the Loews hotel were the boys stayed. Wandered through several shops and managed to buy several more pairs of shoes at another DSW. Walked for about 45 minutes, as long as our feet could hold out, back to Santa Monica Boulevard then caught a bus back to our hotel. Had a beer and refreshing swim before showering and heading off again. This time walked down La Cienega Blvd to the massive Beverly Centre shopping complex. We both bought some jeans in Macy's then had a fabulous dinner at the Grand Lux Cafe (looked like something out of an upmarket casino or hotel). Have decided I am now a lover of Mojitas! So good! Cab back to hotel to save our weary feet!
