We started this morning with a tasty omelette baguette for breakfast mmm, before we boarded the coach and set of for the long drive to Ho Chi Minh City. Half way through the trip we went on a ferry and got off the coach and went to the top deck, for the view. We hid in the shade for 5 minutes while putting on suntan cream so we could sunbathe on the top deck. We were just about to head out into the sun then we were told to go back to the coach as we were nearly there, the ferry was only crossing the river not sailing up it so our sunbathing lasted approximately 30 seconds. We carried on the coach and finally arrived around 2ish.
After checking in we gave Uncle Sean a ring and he met us at the hotel. Sue had to come later as she was working (I seem to remember that word from my past but cant think what it means). He took us round the streets of Ho Chi Minh City giving us good training on how to cross the road without being hit by the thousands of motorbikes. After a walk round the streets he took us to his local bar (333). Me, Rachel, Martin and Sophie sat there eating (mmm tasty mud fish), drinking and chatting with him for half an hour before Uncle Sean kindly explained that he believed that was the bar where he was bit and caught dengue fever. We weighed up the risks, but the beer was less then 60p so we decided it was worth the risk and carried on drinking.
We then had another walk round and I finally made it as a multi-millionaire as I withdraw nearly 6 million Dong (unfortunately this was less the £100). We then headed back to the hotel for a freshen up.
We headed out for a bite with our tour group and had some tasty stir-fries. It was the final night of the Cambodian part of the trip so the last night out with some people, but 3 more people joined for the Vietnam part so we had a nice big group out. After finishing the meal we headed back out to find Sean and Sue, we walked round in circles for a bit trying to find their local bar again and finally managed to contact Sean who came to find us. Then we realised the restaurant we had ate in was only 1 street down from the bar, we will pay more attention in future to where we are walking.
We had a couple of drinks while chatting to Sean, Sue and their teacher friend Dave, who explained it would be worth heading back there to work instead of Oz as Rachel would earn loads being a maths teacher. Apparently she would earn enough to support us both, allowing me to laze around (sounds good to me). Dave's Kid appeared sent by his mum to drag his dad back home, we were a good excuse for him and he said he had to drink one more as he had new friends. So the kid headed off to report back home and we had another 1 before Dave headed home and us four went to meet up with the rest of the group.
After watching the group leave in drips and drags and trying dried cooked squid we were the last four drinking. After getting through the fourth jugs of cocktail we decided to call it a night around one, as we had a tour to the Vietnam tunnels and needed to be up early the following day. We caught a taxi back and crashed out for the night.
