We arose early on Friday (14/10/11), well not that early actually only 7:00. We got ready and headed across the road for some breakfast. We noticed all the locals having a certain item from the buffet, so I went up and got one, paid for it then asked what it was, the person just laughed and said it was very nice, and she was right it was some kind of sweet pastry thing. We then headed to the bus stop, caught a bus to the central station and got our tickets to Singapore. We had a bit of time and money to waste so we grabbed a drink then looked round the shops. We had 20RM, Rachel found some nice earring's for 20RM and we decided to get them, we tried to find the shop assistant but were told she was at the other side of the station and would be back later, we didn't have the time to wait so carried on. I then found a nice wallet for 10RM, I asked for it but the person said it was 35RM apparently the sign was out of date. We finally decided just to get a pair of sunglasses each which we probably will never where, but since they were only 10RM (£2) each its not too bad.
We then got on the coach and headed to Singapore. Our first coach took us to the border, it was bog standard. When we crossed border control we were moved over to a really fancy coach with massive reclining seats! But only for the last hour or so of the journey, and we were dropped in the centre of Singapore. We were very fortunate being offered accommodation from Eva (from our GAP tour) who lives in Singapore with her husband Michael. She had given us her address…we just had to find it! Graeme left me with the bags while he tried to find an ATM to get us some money (and plus I'd been feeling a bit dodge). When he returned (45 minutes later) we went for a tea in a small shopping centre to cool down and rest (with loo's as I still was not good!). We then decided to just get a taxi straight to Eva's. The taxi guy was really nice he started giving us a brief history of the town, and telling us where things were. When we arrived, Graeme offered him a tip but he refused bless him. How sweet.
Well, we made it to Eva's. It took us a little while to figure out which lift to get up to her apartment. We finally found it, and were very excited when we found out the complex had a pool too hehe. We had a catch up and then we got ready to go out for some dinner and drinks. We had a short walk to Clarke Quay by the river with lots of restaurants, and we went for an Italian. We also met up with Santiago (who was also on our GAP trip). It was lovely catching up. We arrived at the restaurant and sat outside. By this point I really wasn't eating so I decided to just have a bite of Graeme's ham and mushroom pizza mmm! Except ewww, I knew something was wrong with me as I could barely even look at it. Graeme enjoyed it though hehe. I stuck to the water (and the loo!). After dinner I decided to head back early as I really was not well so Michael kindly took me back. I reckon I'd had food poisoning or something from the night before as I had a dodgy salad - it just proves, don't even attempt to be healthy in life! Graeme stayed out for some drinks with the other two, they headed on to a lively bar with live music and met up with a load of Santiago Friends and had a jolly good night. Plus saw some interesting sculptures in the bar area, have a look at the photo's for your own opinion of what the artist was trying to represent.
The next day we woke after a lie in, and decided to buy a ticket for the city tour bus. We thought this would be the best way to see the city in one day (plus with regular toilet stops hehe). We hopped on and had a nice tour sitting on the open roof top. We got off at a few stops to see things like the Singapore Flyer, the marine, Fort Cannon park, Orchard road (shopping road!!! And found a New Look!) the botanical gardens and the boat building. We went inside the boat building to the casino too which was amazing. We got free entrance for being foreigners yey. We had a couple of goes on the 2 cent machines, and jealously sat next to an old lady who'd just won thousands and just sat there staring at the screen. We did think we got a free boat ride with our tickets but were turned down at the river oops. Maybe we misread. By the end of the afternoon we got some cheesey chips mmm and by this point I felt up to having a few yey! Seeing Singapore for the day was great, it's an amazing multicultural city. Very clean, safe and classy. Almost like London in 10 years time. Everything is just that bit more fancier than back at home its so strange.
We headed back to Eva's to freshen up and then went out for dominos pizza (which again went down well - again proving my healthy eating point). Eva then took us to a roof top bar which was amazing. You could see all of the city all directions, we felt like celebrities! After taking a few photos we were lucky to find seats and we stayed there for a while chilling with some drinks. Santiago also came to meet us again which was nice.
The next morning we awoke quite late. We pottered out to a few shops for a bit and some lunch before heading back to pack for our flight. We said our goodbyes (thankyou again Eva and Michael for having us), and then headed to the airport on the MRT saving about ten quid compared to a taxi! Even the Metro was fancy, with double the size of the train carraiges, and light up buttons that tell you the side the station will be. Incredible. The airport was quite cool - roof top swimming pool, butterfly garden, cactus garden, film area etc… turns out though most things you have to pay for. So we decided to sit and have a coffee and cake in a coffee shop before boarding.
So goodbye Asia. What an amazing experience so far. Let's see what Oz has to offer…
