Today we got up grabbed a quick breakfast then waited at the guesthouse to be picked up for a snorkelling trip round the island. A man arrived and told us to follow him and we walked about 5 minutes to the pier and waited there, they obviously thought it was a dangerous place and we were not capable of walking 5 minutes on our own. We boarded the boat and headed out around the island. We finally slowed down at Shark Bay, which was supposed to be our first stop, we recognised it from the day before. The guide apologised to us and said to us that we couldn't stop there, as it was too dangerous to snorkel there this time of year. We looked at each other and double-checked we still had all our limbs from the day before.
We then carried on around and stopped and 5 bays all with a range of fish in. When we got of the boat the guy through some food in which made a load of fish come up and surround us. I grabbed some of the food and put it in me pocket to try and attract some bigger fish later. We swam round near some bigger fish and since we had got a waterproof camera pouch I pulled out the food and they came over. I snapped away taking lots of photo's with them being around 10cm away so I thought good shots. Until I swam away looked at the camera and realised that the lens hadn't come out properly, bum.
We explored lots of the reefs and I worked out how to swim down low into them with the snorkelling gear, which was pretty cool. We got to another bay and the guy asked us if we new about a certain fish which he said bit. He went of, probably to find a picture of it but as we only had 30 minutes at this one I didn't bother waiting to see and just went straight in. I swam round seeing loads of fish, one was like a mini sword fish which was pretty cool. Thankfully none of the fish I swam up to bit.
We finally stopped at Koh Nang Yuan Island and went for a snorkel around the beach there which was amazing there was hundreds of fish swimming right next to the beach and some of the coral was pretty high so you got to see the larger fish really close. Rachel swam around for half an hour, then headed back to the beach for a sunbathe, I stayed out for the full 2 hours, trying to get good photo's while the back of my legs were turning a nice pink colour. I found a few colourful ones that were quite close then a found one of the red head and black body ones, which was around 2 foot. It was getting pretty close around a meter away as well so I stayed about trying to take blurry photos of it. I then noticed it had some white things hanging from its mouth…….oh dear there not things there teeth, maybe this is the one that bites, I go to turn round to swim away and see another 2 of them 1 smaller but one a bit bigger then the first, circling me. I quickly swim away not wanting to take the risk of more coming for a feast. I think they might have just thought I was one of them as I did have a red T-shirt on.
I swam round a bit more staying away from the sabre tooth fish then headed back to the beach before we walked back to the boat. We sailed back to the main pier then got freshened up before heading back out towards the other beach for dinner. We walked along a darkly lit streets then got to a restaurant on the outskirts, we decided to keep walking but after the restaurant it went pretty dark and there was a plank of wood (no idea why) across the path, I was first and went flying over. Rachel helped me to me feet then a couple warned us about another one not much further, we walked slowly for a bit further then iy got a bit lighter, but not much.
There was then a section of pavement missing before a blue pipe stretched out along the path, I went to step over it then a local shouted stop. He explained that the other side of the pipe was a freshly concrete paved pavement that was still wet. He then started moaning about how he would have to do it again tomorrow if people and animals walk on it, he then said that's why there's a sign to stop people walking on it and pointed at the blue pipe. He didn't seem to be the most intelligent person in the world so I didn't waste my time explaining to the guy "No that's a pipe not a sign". We decided all this was a sign to turn back and headed back for a bit in one of the local restaurants before being kicked out at closing time again, 10pm, and heading back to the guesthouse. We are heading to Koh Phangan tomorrow hopefully the closing time may be a little bit later.
