Today we had a nice lie in then got up and headed for a street stall for some breakfast baguettes and pancakes mmmm. We then walked along to master divers and were told the sea was too rough for kayaks so we rented some snorkelling gear for a couple of days instead. We asked the lady where was best to go and she pointed at a few places but then said the area of beach behind master divers was really good and there was a ship wreck to explore. So we headed straight there to save any long walks and geared up then swam in.
We were amazed with how much coral there was purple, brown, blue, green, yellow, etc etc. There were also a million fish, some which decided to have a nibble our toes, I cant believe I paid for that in Cambodia when its free here. We swam out and nearly swan into a fish reading feast, many times we had fish pods swimming past us then circling round us. There were black head fish with white tales, and some multicoloured ones, and also one with a Red head and a black body that looked pretty cool and we followed it for a while. Some of them were around 3 foot long.
We had been swimming around the coast for about an hour when we were almost at the conclusion that we were in the wrong area for the shipwreck. But then we noticed a pole sticking out the water not far away, we swam over towards it then slowly through the murky water came the shipwreck, absolutely amazing. We swam round it for a while seeing loads of coral growing over it and many more fish before heading back to shore.
We then decided to try rent a scooter as recommended by Martin…..Martin had you completely forgot who you were talking to when you recommended this, you've seen my driving. We negotiated the price and handed over about £5 for a day and a half rental. We got given some basic tips and both jumped on and tried to get to the road from the hut, we went down a tiny sloop and almost crashed into the building opposite. The man came running after us with terror on his face. I decided to give it a go on my own to get used to it without a passenger for a while and went off down the road to leave Rachel to chat to the guy. I went off and after a couple of minutes was used to it, didn't seem so difficult after all. I did a U turn and headed back, pulled up and waited for Rachel to jump on. She hesitated, apparently the guy and his boss had been telling her all horror stories about tourists on scooters. After 10 minutes debating she could not be persuaded so we handed it back and got our money back. Pretty cool as I got to test-drive a scooter for free.
We headed back to the shipwreck beach again and snorkelled round for a bit longer before heading back for a freshen up. We then walked half an hour to the next beach along where there were lots of nice little restaurants where we grabbed a Thai curry feast. We then headed to another bar to play some pool before heading back.
