Prague...
Boy has this been an interesting few days. I've got so much to write about I almost don't even know how to start. I'm afraid of leaving something out or forgetting things.
Anyway, I arrived by bus from Nuremberg at about 6pm at the main station. By the map, the hostel wasn't far from here. Unfortunately it was actually on the other side of the tracks which took a bit of walking to get around. Then it turns out that the hostel is some tucked away place that you can't even tell exists. I was walking up and down the street for 15mins before I remembered the guy told me to go into a little food place he was partnered with and they would sort me out. They gave me the key to this tucked away door with no signage whatsoever to indicate a hostel and I go up 2 floors to a little hallway with a few rooms.
It's actually a great hostel though with a clean rooms, a large well stocked kitchen, clean showers and even a jacuzzi in the girls bathroom (much to the delight of the girls who let out an amazing squeal when they saw it). It was also quite empty. We had an 8 bed dorm between the 5 of us and the other rooms only seemed to ever have a couple of people there too.
The guys from Dresden rented a car and road tripped it here which I'm a little jealous about. I'm sure that would have been amazing fun. They got here a couple of hours after I did. They quickly got settled in the room and then we decided that since they have a car that we should drive around Prague. Now keep in mind that these guys has rented the smallest imaginable car (nicknamed the "turtle") which was really only designed for four people. So now here I am squeezed in the back seat with the 2 girls sharing a seat belt with Cristina, and we were off.
It's about 9pm on Friday night in Prague and we're squeezed into this tiny car, we've got the windows wound down and the music cranked up and we're winding around these tiny cobblestone streets. People on the sidewalk are staring and/or laughing as we go by. And then we managed to find ourselves down a narrow winding dead end street. There seemed to be no way out, and every time we tried to turn around we would find a car coming back the other way. At one point we decided to follow a car which looked to know which way it was going only to find it park and block seemingly the only exit to this damn place.
We did however find a little store where at we bought some breakfast and lunch supplies and a full crate of beer. Finally we decided "f*** it" and just went the wrong way down as many one way streets as was required to get us out of there.
However, we were still pretty much hopelessly lost. We had a map but no GPS, and it seemed like every time we figured out which way to go the road wouldn't let us turn that way. If we need to go left it was a right turn only and if wanted to go right it was a left turn only.
Eventually we had a cop approach us (I think because we were parked where we weren't suppose to be while trying to decipher the map). We pointed out where we were trying to get to and after she tried explaining it she just gave up and said "follow me". So now we had a police escort through Prague. At this point the windows went down and the music went back up. We were cruising through Prague on Friday night with our own personal guide. However, we told her we wanted to get to the main train station because our hostel is near there. Turns out that once at the station trying to get behind it to where our hostel is wasn't all that easy. So we had to spend another several minutes getting her to explain how we got there. What an adventure!
So when we got back to our Hostel we cracked open some beers and started the real party. And after a couple headed back out, walking this time. We got a KFC bucket for dinner. Then we just wandered around. We found ourselves at Charle's Bridge sometime around midnight. Which turns out is a great time to visit it. There was barely anyone around and it looked great lit up at night. It was also around this time that we first saw the Astronomical Clock, which likewise looked great at night. It was definitely a unique first looked at Prague.
Then we managed to find ourselves at a strip club. There are guys all over the place in Prague offering you deals and free drinks etc to get you to go into one of the million clubs in Prague. So we go to this one club and then
