After a couple of days in Hue staying at the excellent Orchid Hotel (cheers ma n pa for the recommendation) and checking out the history of the city including the impressive citadel, beautiful pagoda (meeting the monks) and huge tomb of Emperor Tu Duc (hoping to meet Lara Croft), it was time to visit the place that everyone says "you have to visit when in Vietnam" - the little town of Hoi An.
After just 1 hour of walking the streets of the 'old town' it was easy to see why everyone raves about it. With streets made for walking and cycling only (no mopeds allowed in the centre) and buildings inspired by the French, the extremely quirky town instantly grows on you, full of shops, cafés and restaurants right by the river.
The next day we hired bicycles and rode out to the nearby beach. The bikes were old school with baskets on the front and even a bell on 1 of them...mine! This led to obvious jealousy from Walshy and so with me being a mature adult....I rang that bell as much as humanly possible. With persistent calls from Stace of "ahh I wish mine had a bell" I did what any decent gentlemanlike fiancé would do...I started to sing "laa laa laa ring my bell, my bell do do do do do!" By the way I hope Burgoyne (my colleague) and Doni (Stacey's cousin) read this...I've seen your ridiculously expensive bikes and not even they had a bell!!
Throw in a 4 hour spa afternoon for you know who with a massage, facial and manicure n pedicure (I sent Stace for a beer) and we had done what everybody does whilst here, including my parents, and fallen for the charm that Hoi An has in abundance!
Next up we had what could possibly be our longest trip of the tour with a 19 hour sleeper bus ride to the beach town of Mui Ne. This is where Stacey really gets her own back with being able to sleep anywhere and everywhere by curling up in a ball...she insists she doesn't snore...I tell you now, she bloody does!
So here we are now chillin in the sun around the Ibiza styled pool with beer in hand and Ibiza chilled out anthems in the background...best man Hesford would be proud! Tomorrow the beach might win the hardest decision we have had to make whilst being here...pool or beach! In a few days we might get a moped and head to the sand dunes for sand sledding but for now even that seems strenuous. For tomorrow brings England and trying to find a bar that will show it at 2am. With Brazil World Cup 2014 being our last stop on the world tour, I'm anxious for England to make it...come on Rooney!!
