Our journey through Vietnam had come to an end and it had done what it had promised and brought both unbelievable highs of mainly everything and the lows of a mosquito bite that gave me dengue fever!
Our next stop was a fleeting 1 night stop over in Bangkok, which was beginning to feel a little like home, before 4 nights on Koh Samui to sort the wedding plans. Being highly organised we knew nothing could be amiss with the details so far.......2 wedding date changes later and a few panicked texts to see if anyone had booked flights already and we had ourselves a new wedding date of Thursday 3rd April 2014. We nearly had the Friday 4th but a quick calculation by yours truly and I'd worked out that we'd be having a full day of relaxing by the private beach/pool the day after the wedding before wanting to move to the busy part of Koh Samui on the Saturday, meaning we'd be in the busy beach bar area for all the premiership football games....see highly organised!
Next came 3 nights in Kuala Lumpur which included highlights such as The Berjaya Times Square and world renowned Petronas Towers, which are truly stunning! Then 3 nights in Singapore which included 1 of my highlights of the trip - an absolute Walshy classic:-
1) Whilst scouring the food court of the now world famous Marina Bay Sands (and we thought we wouldn't beat The Petronas Towers), Walshy said "I can't believe they've got all these different types of food but nothing Western", I quickly responded with "they have, there's pizza and pasta over there." Her next words I'll never forget..."no that's Italian." She had to pick me up off the floor!
After finishing wetting myself, we visited the very posh and huge casino also in Marina Bay with a simple plan to put into action - take them to the cleaners and pay for a night in the penthouse suite....after I'd soon asked what they would give me for my 3 quid Casio watch, the plan wasn't quite Oceans 11! However, with the guy next to us losing £750 on 1 spin, thinking like us that it had to be red after 7 blacks (it really didn't) and we decided to go and drink as many free Chinese tea and soft drinks as possible! Considering we weren't even in the very busy high rollers part of the casino and you begin to realise just how much money is in this seemingly very rich city state.
I'd say we liked Kuala Lumpur but we have loved Singapore. My job at home includes the supervising of the street cleansing in Burnley (or chief dog crap picker upper as my mates say) but I just wish Burnley was as clean as this place with chewing gum actually being banned!! The fairly new addition of the Marina Bay Sands (it's hard to put into words how impressive it is), just finishes off what is a tremendous skyline and the place itself feels very safe to walk around late at night. If you have never been to Singapore, I can't recommend it highly enough!
Our first Asia trip comes to and end as we move 'down under' later today. Next up Melbourne, campervans, old friends, a valley invasion into Brisbane, being best man at Munro's wedding, the ashes and my pop diggity dog Charlie G rockin up! I just hope Walshy throws in a few more classics....my feeling is it won't be long!
