Dong Hoi was our next port of call hoping to visit Paradise Cave. The slightly weird experience of an overnight bus sleeping in seats that are nearly horizontal was interesting, with Walshy feeling that she had been cocooned and swaying like a baby, it's just a good job we aren't claustrophobic as there were Vietnamese sleeping in the aisles!! However, upon arrival at 4.30am we realised that we had just missed a huge storm which had literally brought tress and business signs down all over the place! The caves were therefore shut so we decided to move on the next day to Hue (pronounced H'way - you'll see later).
In my last blog I forgot to mention a memory that will stick with us forever. Whilst taking a seemlessly standard taxi ride, Walshy thought her luck was in as she felt something tickling her leg...however my hands were nowhere near and as she looked down she bellowed the loudest shriek that still finds me shivering in my sleep today...from nowhere a crab was on her leg...next thing the crab was flying, the taxi was swerving and I was wetting myself! We both spent the rest of the taxi ride staring at the crab on the floor with our legs up on the seats!!
Anyhow, we were up and on the minbus to Hue for 7.30am. The next guy that joined us was carrying a plastic bag with what appeared to be a rather large......snake inside. You can just imagine Staceys reaction as he sat in front of us, the bag near our feet. I did what any normal bloke would do and assured her it was dead as it wasn't moving...then it moved...and so did we, to the back seat! With Stacey posing the question of "do you think he'll be getting off soon?", not even my comedy gold response of "Well I imagine he's going all the Hue to Hue" could lighten the situation, unbelievable! With me still tickled with my own joke, Stacey said "if that gets out the bag I'll scream and be out of here", I simply said. "Stace if that gets out the bag, I'll do the screaming for the both of us!"
