Queenstown
Queenstown is one of the nicest places I have been. It is a small town surrounded by snowy mountains, and has a great atmosphere; everyone is really friendly and always having lots of fun.
The first night we got there we met the others from the stray bus and had a night out at Winnies bar which conveniently had 2 for one on drinks! It was really nice to get everyone together again. We also stopped for a famous Ferg Burger which was amazing, but so so big, I had to be spurred on to finish it!
The rest of the time in Queenstown was spent chilling out, walking round the city and the lake, and not forgetting skiing! The slopes opened just before I had to leave so I went up to Cavernet Peak and had two lessons and and whole day on the slopes. It was beautiful up there, you could see all the mountains around Queenstown and they were all covered with snow, it was so pretty! Although I was not very confident starting out, after my last experience on ice, I was actually a natural! Call me big-headed, but I did not fall once, I was able to turn, stop, go faster, slower, and even managed to survive the green slopes, which being beginners we were not really allowed on! It was such a fun day, although I was a little jealous of all the snow boarders! It looks so much cooler, and more of a challenge; think I'll try that out next time, I just didn't allow for skiing in my budget!
The night after skiing we all met up again in the hostel and spent quite a while laughing at Tiago. He was a Brazilian guy who was on the bus, who had never seen snow in his life! It was so funny seeing him put on his layers, he was constantly cold, even when we were inside! Despite not seeing snow before he refused to pay for lessons and went up the mountain on his own and taught himself to ski. Apparently he was really good, however, the next day he was more confident and thought he would try his luck at snowboarding! Again, he went up the mountain, refused lessons and tried to teach himself, but this time he spent the day on his arse. I thought it was so funny! He comes from such a different place, but the snow didn't faze him at all!
We all sat in the hostel drinking and talking till the early hours, it was really nice. We had such a good group on our bus, it would be sad to say goodbye.
