The Great Ocean Road

Our trip down the ocean road was very memorable! Along with our camper van Hercules, our mascot, Zeus and our tent we hit the road for Adelaide!The camper van was a Spaceship and was bright orange which caused great amusement when booking in campsites, asbeing typical girls we didn't have a clue what make it was or any of the details needed to book in!

Our first stop was Torquay, which was not too long a drive so we carried on and camped at Lorne which was quiet but really nice. We explored a few places near by,one of which was lighthouse, names "Round the Twist' which took us all back to our childhoods and resulted in the theme tune " have you ever, ever felt like this,that strange things happenwhen you're going round the twist". The weather wasn't great but we were so excited to be in the camper and cooking like proper campers that it didn't really matter! We managed to cook chicken tonight and rice on this tiny stove, which was highly amusing as Sarah has never even stirred anything before, never mind cook! Apart from some dodgy sounds of animals walking around the tent, Chloe and I survived in the tent but woke up way too early with the heat the next day!We kept having to swap between the camper and the tent, the camper being a lot more comfortable, away from the mosquitoes and the cold and equipped with the tiniest television in the world!It got to the stage where we laughed at whoever had to put up with the tent as the next morning they would all appear with a few more bites!

The second stage of the journey was through Angel-Sea onto Port Campbell where we could visit the famous Twelve Apostles! We spent much of the day driving and then stopped for lunch which, again, we made ourselves! We did however get blown away whilst being attacked by Seagulls- the weather being very cold and us stopping right on the coast! The journey to Port Campbell was really nice and the scenery was unbelievable! We managed to stop at the famous sign and discovered that 'the Great Ocean Road' was actually built in memory of those who fought and died in WWI. You will be able to see on my photos the statue of the workers building the road all those years ago!

After a bit more driving we arrived at Port Campbell, set up camp (we were becoming pro's at putting the tent up). We then headed to the Twelve apostles for the sunset, however we arrived too early after seeking advice from the woman at the camp site, and ended up freezing our arses off waiting for nearly two hours for the sun to set! It was well worth it though as the sight was amazing! Definitely a night I will remember, especially since we actually managed to get ourselves there in our Spaceship! After taking many photos we warmed up in this small Italian restaurant, the only place that was actually still open. We thought we'd treat ourselves and not cook for one night! Once we got back to the campsite it was mine and Chloe's turn in the camper! We were so happy and got to watch 50 first dates on the tiny TV which made it all the more special!

We spent the next day chilling out as the girls were all really ill with cold, before jumping in the camper again and heading away from the small quiet towns, back to civilization.

After driving for many hours we reached the town of Warranbool which actually had shops and people! We had lunch in a cafe and went shopping before heading to a campsite and cooking another one of our memorable camping feasts!

In addition to the remarkable scenery what made the trip so much fun was the experience of camping,drinking goon out under the stars, and driving whilst all singing at the top of our voices!We had such a laugh we were all glad we decided to get Hercules!

The next stop was Kangaroo Island, which unfortunately we did not get to see,it was fartoo expensive and the weather was still not on our side! We decided to drive further up the coast and stopped just outside Adelaide. We stayed literally on the beach as the sea was right in front of our tents, which was pretty awesome! We cooked food then sat out and watched a movie in the outside cinema, before getting some sleep and taking Hercules home! We ended our trip a few days early as the girls needed a real bed to get over their colds. We chilled out in Adelaide in this amazing hostel for a few days, caught up on sleep and enjoyed not having to put up tents and fight off mosquitoes! It had been an awesome week, one we still always talk and laugh about!
