The past few days have been spent organizing our few belongings, as well as becoming familiar with the city. Some of the students from the university we will be attending, Universidad de Extremadura, have been taking us around to show us some history as well as places to shop, eat and hang out.
We start class tomorrow and I must say I've never been so eager to learn. I am absolutely loving every bit of this and cannot wait to see how the rest of the semester unfolds.
I've met a lot of great people from my program and from Spain. Kathryn and I have kind of teamed up with two guys from our program, Andrew and Sean. Friday night, the four of us went out for dinner, but went rather early--9:15pm. We went out for a hamburger, but let there be no mistake. This was not a hamburger, it was a small island. It was a burger for four and they had another one that was triple in size of the one we consumed without a problem.
We went out last night with the students from the university here, and were home by 3am, which is actually quite early over here. Dinner isn't until 10:30pm, so most people go out late and get home late. We were told 6am is typical, but I don't know if I am made out for that.
A typical day here is much different from that of what i'm used to. Breakfast is when you wake up, and is a light meal that we usually make ourselves. Lunch is always at 2:30pm and is the largest meal of the day. Dinner is at 10:30pm and is very informal, much like breakfast. Meal times have been a little challenging to get used to, but snacks have been helpful.
