Today we decided to look at the City. Sallie said it was best to go most of the way by car and finish the journey by train. Going all the way by train wasn't an option as Sallie's nearest Station is three quarters of an hour away & the train stops at every station & so takes considerably longer. It's nice to know we do some things better than the Aussies. However getting to a station was a problem as all the car parks were full. We got lost once or twice but to cut a long story short we eventually caught the train at Zillmere about 10 stops away from the City Centre. Brisbane trains are reasonably priced, clean and efficient.
On reaching the City we decided that assuaging our hunger was top priority so we found a nice open air restaurant in the middle of a shopping mall (we call them pedestrian precincts) Sallie & I had fish 'n chips and Peter at last got his Morton Bay Bugs, a cross between a prawn and a lobster. Last time we were in Oz you could buy Bug Tails & chips in the local fish & chip shop, but times have changed and Bugs have become very expensive.
After lunch we decided to catch the City Cat, the local ferry service, and cruise down the river which is where I took the photo of some of Brisbane's skyscrapers. The trip down the river was lovely especially as the weather was still warm. It was interesting to note the different styles of houses along the river bank. There was everything from modern square boxes to original Queensland timber houses, a bit like The houses from Gone With The Wind. Wood with a veranda all the way round and stunningly blue Jacaranda trees in the gardens.
