After a last minute decision to visit Belgium we arrived around 7 o'clock by the time we found our hostel so went straight out to get food. We tried to find the main centre but got slightly lost so resorted to a Pizza Hut, not quite what we intended but we were fed up of walking and rather hungry! Although we did end up walking through the Royal Park which was quite nice!
We had one full day in Brussels which I think was enough really to take in the main sights. Going the right way this time we found the city centre, Grand Place, and another nearby square with a busker singing, he was really good! We wandered around the side streets which were full of waffle shops or chocolatiers, the smells were lovely!! The Manneken Pis is one of the main (but smallest) tourist attractions in Brussels. They dress the figure up a few times a month in different suits which was quite funny. It was very hot and sunny so we enjoyed a long lunch sat outside.
Brussels is known to have lots of comic street art, especially Tin Tin, around the city so we headed to an area which was supposed to have a 'masterpiece'. When we found the wall it wasn't quite all it lived up to. But we did get go see a sculpture of a concrete mixer truck made of gothic ironwork which was quite interesting. We headed back to our hostel stopping at the supermarket for dinner supplies - vegetable curry on the menu tonight! Wasn't too bad in the end, at least it was fairly nutritious.
Our next destination is Nice which involves quite a long train journey (virtually all day) via Paris. Looking forward to getting to some warmer, beachy areas - just hoping the weather is on our side!
Having starting this blog entry on the train to Paris this morning, we are still in Paris! The early train to Nice was full so we're having to catch a later one. Guess getting stuck in Paris isn't a bad place to be stranded for the day!
