Gemma's Travels
Hi guys, sorry it has been a bit long since i last wrote, we have been busy bees!!
Have started travelling up the East Coast now which is so much fun.
We spent a couple of days in Melbourne after going to Neighbours Night, didnt get up to much, saw the sights like Federation Square and the habour but to be honest we was not that impressed with the place so left pretty sharpish, at least we have been there though!
We had one night back in Sydney & had rain - boo! We then moved onto to Port Maquarie. Really nice little place along the coast, we arrived in blazing sunshine which was so so nice after not being so warm further south! We had 2 nights here, our hostel was lovely, really small and about 5mins from lthe river front and sea. We arrived in the late morning so in the afternoon went to the koala hospital. It was so sweet and saw lots of injured/old/disabled koalas! Me and Mel fell in love with one called Cloud, she had been burnt in a bush fire and so couldnt climb up trees very well now and she was also blind, it was so cute she kept bumping into things when she walked on the ground - bless!
The next day we hired bikes from our hostel, it was a bit drizzling 1st thing but we headed off anyway. The day ended up being sunny and warm which was call. We headed for the rainforest which was about 6km each way. Oh my god we have never been so knackered in our lives! It was mainly uphill and so hard but it was well worth it for all hte beach views on the way. We felt very proud of ourselves afterwards. Not much nightlife around here so we spent our evenings chatting in the courtyard and watching telly! Good to have a bit of rest for once!
After Port Maquarie we headed onto Byron Bay. Again really nice place, quite small. Pleased we have gone off season because apparantly it gets rammed in the summer time. This is a real hippy place, so much smoking going on and full of stoners! All good fun though. We arrived at the hostel quite late in the evening so we stayed in had a cinema so our 1st night was spent watching the England Game at 1am! Come on England! Next day we got up and went on a Whale Watching Trip. So so good. We saw loads of whales and loads of dolphins came right up to the boat. We didnt get many pictures though as they are so quick and we didnt want to spend the whole time looking at them through a lense - sorry guys but I am sure you can imagine! We also saw loads of whales because they are migrating at the moment. Really amazing and we saw some breaching, which is when they jump out of the water and splash back down. The boat ride back was hilarious! We literally got soaked right through me and Mel could not stop pissing ourselves. If you can imagine like when it is on a tv set or something and they are chucking water at the people from buckets - that is what it was like!!!! Luckily the seawater it actually quite warm - bout 20'. In the evening we watched a talent show at the hoset, seriously everyone here seems to be able to play acoustic guitar apart from me and Mel. Was a good laugh. Next day we had a bus at 3pm so we went on a walk up to the lighthouse. Another very hilly adventure but worth it for the views. The whole walk was about 12km aswell so once again we found ourselved feeling very worn out! Byron bay has got the most easterly point of Australia so we have been there now!
After Byron we drove to Surfers Paradise. It is so cool here too! It is bigger than the last 2 places we have been. 1st night we met 2 really cool brummy girls, Kate and Charlotte who are staying in our hostel which is more like an appartment and had a girls night out - so much fun as you can see from our photos on Mel's site! Had a bit of a hangover the next so chilled out on the beach and a quiet night in.
Today we have had the best day! We learnt to surf! It is the best fun and I actually managed to stand after a lot of practice. Really good time today.
We are so happy to be travelling on the coast now. Our next big thing that we will be doing is Fraser Island which we be beautiful. The further we go up the sunnier and warmer it gets which is cool.
Just to be confusing the surfing photos are on my website and the rest are on Mel's! Sorry!
Loads of Love to everyone and big hugs.
Missing you Loads
