Gemma's Travels
Hi guys, hope everyone is ok and enjoying the hot weather you've got at the moment, I am quite jelous as it is not exactly hot where we are!
Anyway recovering from a bit of a hangover at the moment, we went to 'Neighbours Night' last night in Melbourne - so much fun! We met 3 of Ramsey Streets Stars! Boyd Hoyland, Max Hoyland and Ginelle Timmons! We was a bit disappointed as we really wanted to meet the old classics Harold Bishop and Carl Kennedy! Never mind it was a good time anyway as you can see from our photos on Mel's site.
We have been in Melbourne for 1 day, we arrived after a 15hr bus ride from Sydney to here. The journey was not too bad though and it was over night so you can sleep as much as you are able to.
Sydney was really great, we had about 5 days there which was enough because we thought we would stay longer. On our 1st day in Sydney we walked to the habour and saw the opera house, which is smaller than you'd think and not as white!, and walked across the sydney habour bridge, which was a lot longer than i thought! Although it is a city down by the habour it is really chilled out and there are street performers and stuff so it doesnt feel like you've got a massive city behind you! There are loads of shops, all have sales on as well which is so tempting, we have been good though and only bought a few things, like jackets cause for some reason neither of us brought one! Weather was nice all the time we were there, sunny and dry so cant ask for more than that as it is meant to be winter! It is like spring back home. In the evening we went out for dinner, our 2nd time of eating dinner out in our trip so far! We were on the habour front and watched the sunset behind the Sydney Harbour Bridge, it was really good.
We also visted Featherdale wildlife park which i loved sooo much! THere was kangaroos and koalas which you touch and feed it was so cool they were all really cute! They also had loads of other animals to but nothing could top the koalas, they are my new favourite animal, sorry hedgehogs! In the evening we went on a bar crawl and stayed up to watch the England match which played at 2am our time! We really got into the game, it was so much fun supporting them from another country.
We did a lot of walking around the city and also visited the botanical gardens which were lovely. In one section they have loads of bats which was weird as we didn't know they hang about during the day! We also visited 2 markets one was s*** and full of tacky stuff and the other was really nice. An area in Sydney called The Rocks is really really nice, it is like olde worlde if that makes sense, cobbled roads and old buildings which made a nice contrast to the modern built up city.
We've not been in Melbourne long but what we've seen of it so far it good! It is a lot more built up, as in sky scrapers, than Sydney which i wasnt expecting. Slightly colder but the sun is still shining so its not all bad, at least we've not got rain! We are staying in a hostel which actually gives you free internet 1/2hour a day which is what im using up now! Wahoo!
Once we've explored Melbourne I'll let you know what it is like. I am really looking forward to getting further over and start moving up the east coast, really cant wait to dive! This country is just so bloody massive though it takes so long to get from A to B! Im loving the cities we've been to but thing is a city is a city so once you've seen it there really isnt much else to do!
Oh yeah also when we was in Sydney we visited Bondi Beach! It was good day although a bit blustery!
Happy Days!
Missing you all, thanks again for my messages I love them.
Lots of Love and Hugs
Gem
