We reached the border eventually after a long old bus journey through the night zigzagging through the mountains. People were throwing up and everything, we wondered what the plastic bags handed out at the beginning were for! They crushed all the locals down the middle of the coach on plastic chairs, it must have been a nightmare for them as they couldn't sleep (apart from the lady who slept with her head on my lap!) and they were being thrown around all over the place because of the windy roads.
The border crossing was really strange. A small river separates Laos & Thailand, you basically get stamped out of one country, sail over the river & get stamped into the next country & off you go! No bag checks or anything so within a few minutes we were on our next bus journey to Chaing Rai.
